Arona will remember today the seven people who died in the collapse of the Julián José building, in Los Cristianos. The block of flats collapsed at 9:31 a.m. on April 14, 2016. Graciela Fannidhi, Mariflor González, Noemi Ruiz, Antonio Jesús García, Hanane Mrbet Fahsi, Alessandro Locatelli and Markku Tapani died in the incident. Emergency teams took three days to rescue the victims from the mountain of rubble.
On the occasion of the sixth anniversary, the Arona Corporationheaded by José Julián Mena, neighbors and relatives of the deceased will observe a minute of silence and will make an offering next to the site of Amalia Alayón street, where the collapse occurred.
The Justice decreed the provisional dismissal of the case by not appreciating criminal responsibility. In her conclusions, the judge pointed out that the causes of the collapse could be “multiple” and considered that the responsibilities should be established in civil proceedings.
