titsa expands the payment by bank card to all its bus lines in Tenerife. The island councilor for Mobility and president of the public transport company of the council, Enrique Arriaga, highlights that it is the first company in the sector in Spain to implement this system in the entire fleet of vehicles. He has done so after concluding the installation process of the new payment system that began to work at the beginning of the month on some routes, mainly those that connected with airports and those most used by tourists and visitors.

Usual form of payment.

The insular director of Mobility, José Alberto León, explains that paying by bank card on public transport is becoming more and more common. “This allows greater agility in the process when accessing the bus.” Likewise, “it offers the full range of possibilities to pay for the trip, especially to less frequent users,” he points out. In this sense, it was a highly demanded option, especially by foreigners when they spend a holiday season on the Island. The installation of this new payment option in the entire fleet, in which the same fees apply as with cash payment, has meant an investment of 745,000 euros for the adaptation of the hardware and software of the Ticketing System.

Like the Ten+ card.

Users who choose to use the bank card will pay for their trip in a similar way to how it is currently done with the Ten+ card at the driver’s desk. The price of the trip will be the same as if it is paid in cash. The cancellation machines have been adapted so that they can accept the subscription system.

The validation and payment of the trip can also be done through smart devices for those who have their bank cards integrated into them. As a requirement, only Mastercard and Visa bank cards that do not require a pin can be used.

“It is the first transport company in Spain to implement the system in the entire fleet”

Titsa incorporated on April 6 the payment by bank card in 33 lines of the company. Then it was announced that the new system would be gradually implemented on the rest of the routes and in the vehicle fleet, something that is now becoming a reality.

The presentation ceremony took place outside the Santa Cruz de Tenerife interchange, with the presence of Arriaga, León and the manager of Titsa, Raquel Martínez.

The intention was to connect with the airports and the most touristic areas because they are the ones that visitors use the most, potentially the ones that can pay the most with a bank card, at least until they acquire a transport voucher depending on their stay or plans on the Island.

Aeroexpress lines.

The first lines where the bank card has worked are those of star routes such as those that lead to airports. At the moment, the 20, 30 and 40 that connect the Santa Cruz Interchange, Puerto de la Cruz and Costa Adeje with Tenerife North-Ciudad de La Laguna. Given the success in the influx of users, planning indicates that the direct bus to Reina Sofía Tenerife Sur will soon be recovered.

The card validation and payment implementation project has had the participation of the winning providers of the tenders called for this purpose, such as Indra, Titsa’s technological partner for the integration of this form of payment in the Ticketing System, and CaixaBank, bank entity acquiring the payments.
