Santa Cruz met again last night with the processions of the hand of the Lord of Prayer in the Garden. This first procession with image of the capital it served for the faithful to meet again in the street after two years doing it in the intimacy of the temples. This image, of Andalusian origin, and dating from the 18th century, is considered one of the best pieces of chicharrera Holy Week.
The procession began at 8:30 p.m. and departed from the chapel of the Venerable Third Order, which is located behind the church of San Francisco and next to the Plaza del Príncipe. He walked through the streets of Villalba Hervás, San Francisco, Castillo, Valentín Sanz, and again Villalba Hervás to return to his chapel. This year, unlike those prior to the pandemic, since the Magna procession itself was not held in the capital, the image will no longer be in procession this Holy Week.
In The lagoonthe Franciscan Brotherhood of Prayer in the Garden also paraded along with the image through the streets of La Laguna, starting from the Monastery of Santa Clara de Asís where the Brotherhood is based.
Today, Holy Tuesday, the protagonist will be the Lord of Tribulations, who, after two years, like the rest of the images, will again procession through the streets of El Toscal. The great devotion that Santa Cruz feels for this image makes it one of the most beloved of Holy Week. It will leave at 7:30 p.m. from the church of San Francisco de Asís, to tour the streets of Villalba Hervás, Valentín Sanz, La Rosa, San Martín, San Miguel and Señor de las Tribulaciones, and thus fulfill the vow made by the capital in 1893 in gratitude for ridding the city of the cholera epidemic that was ravaging the capital.
Meanwhile, in La Laguna, another of the processions will take place that is followed by thousands of faithful and that is the Encounter in the neighborhood of La Cuesta. There, the image of María Santísima de los Dolores will leave in procession from the parish of Nuestra Señora de La Paz y Unión at around 8:30 p.m., while Our Father Jesús Cautivo before Caiaphas will do so from the church of La Candelaria.
The Virgin and the Christ will walk hand in hand with both brotherhoods through the streets of the neighborhood and after accelerating their respective steps they will approach each other until the face to face of both thrones arrives, which is expected to take place around 9:30 p.m. in the Plaza de Trinidad Barreto .
The rest of Holy Week, both in Santa Cruz and in La Laguna, is completed with the traditional processions on Good Thursday and Good Friday, which, in the case of Santa Cruz, will not have a full recovery, since the Macarena, which comes out usually on Holy Thursday accompanied by Jesús Cautivo, it will not go out in procession due to the impossibility of the brothers to prepare their route. Yes, she can be seen on her throne, in the church of La Concepción. On Friday, the Magna procession will only have the Dolorosa and the Santo Entierro, so it will not have its usual dimension.
