SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 12 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The general director of Sports in the Government of the Canary Islands, Manuel López, has signed the resolution by which the public functions attributed to the Canarian Wrestling Federation are revoked (article 66 of the Canarian Law 1/2019 of sport) and the President.

The functions will be assumed by the public body until the entity recovers its normal operation.

Such decision is adopted after the detection, by Sports, of “suppositions of notorious inactivity and abandonment of functions that suppose a serious breach of legal and statutory duties”, as indicated in the resolution itself, reports the regional government in a note.

Manuel López has signed the resolution to dismiss the president of the Federation and the rest of the members of its Governing Board after the previous resignation of seven elective members of that body -the last resignation took place on October 15, 2021– and attending to what is established in articles 14 and 17 of the federative statutes.

Despite being formally required by Sports on several occasions, the now dismissed president had not proceeded to call the corresponding elections, as established in the statutes, especially as a result of the seven resignations produced by the entity’s Governing Board.

Now, the same resolution sets the call for early elections to the Governing Board of the Canarian Wrestling Federation.

With this objective, the Central Electoral Board, as defined by the electoral regulations of the Federation, must proceed to the elaboration of the pertinent calendar, so that, complying with the legally established deadlines, the elections are held before next July 15.

To the suspension of the functions, in a precautionary and provisional way, of the president of the Canarian Wrestling Federation, until now Francisco Rivero, is added that of the acting vice president, Ismael Eduardo Pérez; the treasurer, Pablo José Alonso, and the members Sergio Castañeda Quintero and José Luis Martín.

This decision is based on the fact that a disciplinary file has been opened by the Canarian Sports Discipline Committee as a result of “alleged very serious disciplinary infractions foreseen and with sanctions typified in Law 1/2019, of physical activity and Canarian sport”.

Specifically, it refers to the “very serious breach” of the statutes and the electoral regulations of the Canarian Wrestling Federation, to the non-execution of requirements of the regional sports administration, “to abuses of authority and the illegitimate usurpation of powers and competences”, is set out in the resolution.

In the same legal document, the general director appoints a management commission in the Canarian Wrestling Federation, so that it provisionally assumes the public functions that correspond to it according to the Canarian Sports Law.
