SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 12 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries area of the Cabildo de Tenerife allocates 30,000 euros to the preservation and improvement of native livestock breeds, specifically the basque cow and the Tenerife goat, through two grants awarded to the National Association of Breeders of Cabra Tenerife (Acricati) and the Canarian Association of Drag, Promotion and Breeding of Rough Cattle, and National Breeders of Select Cattle of the Canarian Breed (ACA).
As detailed by the counselor, Javier Parrilla, this aid “is part of the same line of boosting productivity and developing the business confidence of our ranchers and ranchers”, and aims to consolidate traditional breeds as a key element for generating economy.
In this sense, the island councilor explains that “following up herd books is a job that complicates livestock management,” so it is better for the associations “to manage it, it is a direct benefit to the island’s livestock.”
For his part, the president of the Livestock Breeders Association of Tenerife (Agate), José Manuel Expósito, assures that “this aid is essential to be able to carry out the work of genetic improvement and conservation and maintenance of the native breeds that we have been carrying out”, and emphasizes the importance of “endangered” indigenous breeds in the sustainable rural development of the livestock sector.
In this regard, the counselor reaffirms the Cabildo’s commitment to livestock biodiversity and assures that traditional breeds “not only lead to culture and values, but are also the ones that can best sustain our ecosystems and traditional agrosystems, which They have a higher level of possibility of economic success”.
Of the initial budget of 30,000 euros, a fixed amount of 1,500 euros has been assigned to each association, while the remaining amount has been distributed proportionally based on the number of farms and Large Livestock Units (UGM) of each entity.
In this way, Acricati will receive a total of 17,989 euros and ACA of 12,010 euros.
The period for justifying the granted subsidy will be one month, from the date of notification of this resolution.
These subsidies are compatible with aid or income from other administrations or public or private entities, such as those also granted by the Government of the Canary Islands.
