The Council of Tenerife will open, starting this Tuesday, the call for the eighth edition of the ‘Agrojoven Awards’, a contest that recognizes and distinguishes business projects carried out by young people and linked to the rural environment of the island.
The island councilor for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Javier Parrilla, explains in a note that the objective of these prizes, endowed with 14,400 eurosis “to promote the professionalization and participation of young people in the primary sector to contribute to generational change and try to reduce the abandonment of agricultural land”.
The insular director of the area, Cayetano Silva, adds that it is about “valuing the talent and capacity of the new generations of businessmen and women in the agricultural and livestock sector, through projects that drive job creation and promote a sustainable development of the rural world”.
The application submission deadline will remain open for 20 business days starting this Tuesday.
The contest is divided into two modalities. The first will recognize those projects that have been launched 24 months before the deadline for submitting applications and the three best initiatives will receive a prize of 5,000, 4,000 and 3,000 euros, depending on the score.
The second modality will distinguish the best business ideas among those projects that have not yet been launched.
Thus, Four prizes of 600 euros will be awarded to each of the four best valued proposals.
The contest is aimed at people under 41 years of age, who are registered in any municipality on the island, regardless of their nationality.
Those private legal persons in which at least half of its members are under 41 years of age and participate in the same proportion in the share capital and must have their registered office in Tenerife may also participate.
The business projects admitted to the competition will be evaluated by a technical committee, made up of technical personnel from the Cabildo and other entities from the agricultural sector and rural development, based on the established evaluation criteria.
