Cinema and reality will go hand in hand this year in Adeje to represent The passion, the Holy Week act with the greatest external projection in the south of Tenerife. The twenty-fifth edition will bet on a film format, with biblical passages recorded in different parts of the municipality, but also with the staging, live, of the culminating act in the Plaza de España: the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
After the 2020 and 2021 suspensions due to the pandemic, the City hall has chosen to recover the main course of the holy week adejera, as well as the rest of the acts, through a mixed formula, given that at the time of adopting the decision, months ago, the evolution of infections by COVID-19 and the measures that would remain in force during these dates were unknown. Hence, a “creative solution” was chosen, in the words of Mayor José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga.
Practically all of the scenes have been filmed in various natural and heritage sites of the southern municipality and amateur actors and actresses have participated in them, the vast majority of whom are residents of the town. The cameras have recorded in different locations such as Teresme or Boca del Paso, in neighborhoods such as La Quinta or Tijoco, and even in hotels such as Bahía del Duque or El Mirador. “We have shot a high-quality film that will remain in the history and cultural heritage of Adeje”, highlighted Alberto Álvarez, coordinator of the Culture area.
MORE THAN 300 PEOPLE
More than 300 people will participate in the representation of La Pasión, including cast, direction, assistants, operating personnel, art, props, costumes and makeup. For the first time in 25 years, the Adeje City Council called a casting call among the neighbors to select the protagonists of the main scenes, among them, Jesús (who will be played again by José Antonio López after the director of La Pasión, Abraham Gómez, decided so). ), Mary, Herod, Pilate, Caiaphas, Judas, Nicodemus and Mary Magdalene. In addition, the extra roles were distributed to participate as representatives of the town.
All of them will interpret, both in the documentary and live, the evangelical texts that recount the final hours of Jesus of Nazareth: the last supper, the prayer on the Mount of Olives, the betrayal of Judas, the trial in the Sanhedrin, the Pilate’s washing of the hands and the prayer of his wife, the lashes and the crown of thorns, the passage with the cross, the encounter with the mother and finally, the death on the cross, the imposing scene full of realism and emotion that it will take place again, three years later, in front of the Barranco del Infierno.
The combination of the cinematographic format and the live interpretation from the Plaza de España, can be followed in situ on several giant screens, but also from 12:00 p.m., through the cameras of Televisión Canaria, Mírame TV (on its regional and international channel ), 13 TV (which will broadcast it throughout the country), Channel 4 Tenerife and Channel 10.
