the mayor of The Realejos and president of the Popular Party (PP) in the Canary Islands, Manuel Dominguezdoes not hesitate about who should be his successor and next candidate for Mayor, given that in all probability, he will head the list for the Government of the Canary Islands in the next elections: “There is no doubt, my successor has to be Adolfo González”, he certifies .
The current first deputy mayor has been working together with Domínguez for the last three terms as part of the Government, but before that four were together as opposition councillors.
Manuel Domínguez: “I say it by capacity”
“I’m not one to pass the buck on things like this. And I don’t say it out of personal affinity, although we are friends, but out of capacity. He is a man qualified to manage and lead the future of my town, where my family lives, and for whom I only wish the best, and if I mention him it is because I think he is the best for Los Realejos”.
González has managed almost all areas of the City Council. In the first mandate he was in charge of General Services, Internal Regime, Contracting, Personnel and Culture and Historical Heritage and in the second, he managed the areas of Urbanism, Industry and then Economic Promotion, the Local Development and Employment Agency. These last departments have been maintained since then together with that of Institutional Relations.
Manuel Domínguez also does not doubt that the PP will once again achieve the absolute majority that it has held since 2011. “Although I am not here, the PP has shown that it does not revolve around one person. Although a few years ago it was a small tree planted with a very short root, it has taken root and is prepared to withstand a wind like the Delta. Realejera citizens know that this is a team prepared, cohesive and trained to continue taking the reins of this municipality, ”he declares.
Domínguez stresses that he will never deceive the realejeros. “If I am a candidate for the presidency of the Government of the Canary Islands, I will not be able to attend to the neighbors as they deserve because I will be traveling through all the islands, and therefore, I would step aside.”
Prepared
Asked if he is prepared to take on this challenge, Adolfo González considers that he has a “fairly close background of internal and administration knowledge” and has also assumed the coordination of the government group. “I feel prepared, eager, I think I have the support of my colleagues from the municipal group and the local committee. Therefore, this last organ of the party understands that it has to be me, I will take the step, ”he notes.
After the uncertainty experienced in recent months in the PP, the recent election of Alberto Núñez Feijoó as president makes it possible to change the succession in the Mayor’s Office. The when and how is still undecided but it won’t be long.
