The man who caused a fire in a hotel in Tenerife did it to hide another crime, according to the police

The 28-year-old man arrested as the alleged perpetrator of the fire at a hotel in Adeje, Tenerife, in November 2021 allegedly did so to eliminate evidence of another crime, as reported by the National Police on Wednesday.

The fire in one of the offices caused the eviction of 150 clients from a hotel in Fañabé on the morning of November 17 of last year, the National Police recalls in a statement.

The fact that, according to the testimonies collected, the objects in the office had been moved and appeared in a different place than usual, suggested that the fire had probably been carried out to cover up a previous crime against property.

Likewise, they obtained evidence at the scene that apparently implicated a person with no connection to the offices or the hotel in the fire.

The alleged perpetrator of the events, whose search was laborious due to the lack of a known whereabouts on the island, was arrested “days ago” in the town of Adeje by National Police investigators, the note states.

The emergency services, including the National Police, evicted 150 clients from the hotel complex who were close to the source of the fire until it was controlled.

Once the emergency was controlled, the National Police investigators began to work on the ground since, from the beginning, the firefighting services suspected that they could be facing an arson attack.

The actions were carried out by agents of the National Police Station of South Tenerife.
