Santa Cruz renews the agreement with RTVE and RTVC for the coverage of Carnival 2022
Signing agreement with Canarian Television for the 2022 carnivals

The mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, José Manuel Bermúdez, today signed two agreements with the sole administrator of RTVC, Francisco Moreno, and the director of RTVE in the Canary Islands, Domingo Álvarez, for the television coverage of the next Carnival. The Councilor for Fiestas, Alfonso Cabello, was also present at the signing.

The signed agreement guarantees the maximum diffusion in the local, national and international scope of the santacruceras carnival, only party in the Canary Islands declared of international tourist interest. With the reissue of the agreement, continuity is given to the collaboration with the public entities that operate in the Canary Islands.

José Manuel Bermúdez was satisfied after the signing of the agreements “since an agreement is reissued that gives continuity to the dissemination of the Santa Cruz Carnivals in all territorial areas.” In addition, the mayor highlights that, “global audiences will be reached through the International Channel, something very important in an edition in which we return to experience the closest thing to normality”.

“I really wanted to sign this agreement again, because it means that we celebrate our Carnival again and I want to especially signify the commitment in the form of enthusiasm and affection that the workers of the two television stations always put into everything that has to do with our party. ”, added the mayor.

The agreement includes the live broadcast of the Queen’s Election Gala, scheduled for June 10, for all of Spain, through La 2 and Canal Internacional, with a potential audience of 400 million viewers, as well as on the RTVE and RTVC websites. For its part, Radiotelevisión Canaria guarantees the regional broadcasting of the central act of the Chicharrero Carnival, as well as the broadcast of the main events of the festival programme.

After the audience successes reaped in recent editions, RTVE will once again broadcast on La 2 and Canal Internacional, the comparsa contest in its Rhythm and Harmony phase, scheduled for June 26, on Anaga Avenue.

Domingo Álvarez highlighted RTVE’s commitment to the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife in recent years, with the availability of all its technical resources, as well as the support of state-level programs, such as España Directo, which achieved million-dollar audiences and that served as a showcase for our most international festival.

Álvarez highlighted the alliance between both public television stations and the benefit it brings to the Carnival, as confirmed by the audience numbers.

Moreno, for his part, stressed that Televisión Canaria will broadcast all the Carnival events and assured “the inescapable commitment of Radio Televisión Canaria to bring the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife to all the homes of the Archipelago”.

In addition, local television stations will play a fundamental role in covering the most important Carnival events, as in previous years.

Television audiences of Carnival 2021

The 2021 Carnival edition, although it did not present the usual contest and event formats, brought together a total of 2.3 million spectators in the show “Santa Cruz Corazón del Carnaval”, the program that closed the programming and that proclaimed the guardians of the scepter, on March 7, 2021. This event was broadcast on La 2 de Televisión Española nationwide, with an average of 193,000 people

On the regional circuit, Televisión Canaria obtained an audience of 39,000 viewers, which meant a 6.2% audience share and an average of 181,000 Canarians who followed the broadcast for at least one minute. The most watched minute on TVC was at 10:52 p.m. At this time, the program achieved an average audience share of 8.9% and 64,000 viewers. The most watched minute on TVE was at 9:53 p.m., with an average of 312,000 viewers. Some 97,000 people connected at some point with the program through La 2 in the Canary Islands.

Regarding the special programming of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival broadcast by Televisión Canaria, La Canción del Siglo, broadcast on March 5, registered a 4.4% audience share and an average of 23,000 viewers. 142,000 canaries followed the broadcast for at least one minute. Its most watched minute is reached at 9:39 p.m., at which time the program achieves an average of 6.6% audience share and 47,000 viewers.

On March 6, it was the turn of “La Noche de Las Comparsas” which had a 4.3% share and 23,000 viewers. Around 150,000 Canarians followed the broadcast for at least a minute, reaching its most watched minute at 9:37 p.m. At this time, the program achieves an average audience share of 6.6% and 46,000 viewers.
