The President of the Popular Party (PP) of Tenerife, Emilio Navarro, expresses his concern “for the direction that the action of the island government is taking, which, with its inconsistencies, is causing Tenerife to lose opportunities for its development.” This public statement comes after learning that the president of the Cabildo himself will sign a agreement with the state government, for a value of one million euros, to carry out actions in the field of railway infrastructure. In his opinion, “The Tren del Sur project destroys the credibility of Pedro Martín.”
Emilio Navarro assures that “he does not understand the position” of the government team of the Island Corporation in the case of guided transport and mobility on the Island. In this regard, he recalls that “just two months ago opposed a Popular Party proposal to include the Tren del Sur in the Railway Network of General Interest (RFIG), which gave the option of accessing European funds for its financing». In this line, the insular president of the PP draws attention to the fact that, “however, now we know the fact that he has signed an agreement with the General State Administration to draft projects related to that same train.”
“The fluctuations of the insular government on the island’s large projects make us lose investment and opportunities”
The also mayor of Santiago del Teide stresses that “the Tren del Sur project has definitively struck down the credibility of Pedro Martín.” An affirmation that he bases on the conviction that “his actions are marked by the fear of losing the support of Podemos for the Cabildo government and, therefore, the chair of the Presidency” of the Insular Corporation.
On this issue, Emilio Navarro assures that “what we demand from Pedro Martín from the Popular Party is that he put the interests of the people of Tenerife above all else.” With this premise, he highlights that «the Popular Group in the Cabildo extended a hand to the president of the institution. The objective is to carry out the great issues that affect Tenerife.
The president of the Tenerife Conservatives concludes by putting a warning on the table: «This whole situation reveals an alarming lack of leadership that brings, as a direct consequence, the loss of investment and, therefore, of the competitiveness of our Island, which is produced in an increasingly complicated international context from the economic point of view».
