Tenerife forecasts an average occupancy of 78% for Easter

The hotel and non-hotel establishments associated with Ashotel forecast an average occupancy in Tenerife of 78% for Easter, a figure that is four points less than the figure corresponding to the same holiday period in 2019, the pre-pandemic reference year.

However, and according to the internal survey carried out by the hotel management through its Tourism Competitiveness and Sustainability Observatory for the main vacation cycles, the occupancy forecasts for the week from April 10 to 17 in the rest of the islands of the province are better.

Thus, La Palma significantly improves its estimates after a very complicated Christmas, in which it barely touched 35% on average, Ashotel indicates in a statement.

For this Holy Week, the percentage rises to 75.69% on average and experiences a much-needed recovery for the island’s economy, continues the hotel management, which points out that in 2019 the forecasts in La Palma were practically the same as those of this year.

For its part, La Gomera experienced a positive behavior, with an average occupancy for this holiday week of 78.61%, just three points less than that estimated for the same period in 2019, which stood at 82%.

Finally, El Hierro raises its forecasts to 87.61%, very positive data that even represents two points more than those estimated in 2019 (85%).

Regarding the different areas of Tenerife, the south registers the highest occupancy forecast percentage, with an average of 82.25%, while the north forecasts 68.24% and the metropolitan area, 49.23%.

In the case of the behavior of these three areas with respect to Easter 2019, the data is lower in all of them and while the south forecast 85% for that period, 2.5 points less than now, the north estimated 74% (-6 points) and the metropolitan area almost -10 points.

The sector’s forecasts are somewhat more optimistic after very complicated December and January, especially influenced by the restrictions due to the omicron variant of COVID-19 and the slowdown in travel, says Ashotel, which indicates that February and March They have been months of better behavior.

He points out that the expectations of businessmen in the accommodation sector regarding the behavior of this Holy Week still do not largely exceed those of 2019.

This is because, according to the Ashotel Tourism Competitiveness and Sustainability Observatory survey, 44.8% of hoteliers anticipate that this holiday week will close with fewer occupancies than the pre-pandemic year, while 33% trust that it will be higher and 22% the same.

For the president of Ashotel, Jorge Marichal, after the recovery of the sector in these months of February and March, Holy Week may close with important occupancy data in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, always within the scenario of uncertainty generated by the war conflict in Ukraine.

“We have to be positive but always with the necessary caution in the face of the clouds that we still have above us, such as inflation, an aspect that greatly influences the operating costs of hotel establishments, and on the demand side, the uncertainty that our customers have to time to make a reservation”, points out Jorge Marichal.
