Yesterday, the Todos con La Rambla platform presented two provisional solutions to the entrance and exit from the TF-5 to this neighborhood of San Juan de la Rambla, which is at the same time the access to the Northwest region of Tenerife, until the passage is built lower, an action that will improve the current situation and benefit both vehicles and pedestrians but that will be in the long term.
Both were drawn up by two road engineers “friends” of the Platform to overcome the lack of visibility that the island technicians argued for not approving the turn from La Rambla to Santa Cruz. One of them consists of widening the road of the TF-5 that allows the safety barrier of the embankment located in the curve of the Ruiz ravine to be set back, and another, in moving the crossing point of the intersection towards the San Juan de the Rambla in order to reduce the widening as much as possible.
This was explained during a press conference held just in front of the place that is considered a black spot on the TF-5, where several accidents have occurred and are occurring, behind a “beautiful” concrete wall built by the Cabildo for a bus stop. buses “that no one asked for or wants,” said the spokeswoman for the aforementioned platform, Adela Abreu, ironically. In fact, in the place there is a banner placed by the neighbors that says: “Where do I cross?”.
Accompanied by other companions of the group; the mayor, Ezequiel Domínguez; the legal advisor to the Mayor’s Office, Javier González, and other members of the Municipal Corporation, Abreu made a chronology of the actions carried out in recent months to justify the reason why they started the protests to demand a solution to a problem that has been going on for 42 years, which is why they also placed black ribbons on the facades of the houses and which they also hung up yesterday as a “feeling of social mourning”.
It was in June of last year when a group of neighbors requested an interview with the insular director of Highways, Tomás Félix García, upon seeing that conservation works were beginning on the road “but he did not give us any solution and there was a general malaise ”, Abreu pointed out. As a consequence, at the end of January they decided to organize a caravan of cars every Sunday at noon to make their claim known.
In February they had another meeting in which the Minister of Roads, Enrique Arriaga, was also present, to which they took a proposal that consisted of a central lane with entry and exit from Icod de los Vinos and Santa Cruz as a safe provisional solution.
On that occasion, they were told that the only problem was the turn to the left to go to the capital, but the platform did not accept as an alternative to return to the hull and then go to Santa Cruz, so the island officials told them to look for some formula. to solve the lack of visibility, the lack of grade and the protection of a protected space “despite the fact that they have taken part of the latter to make a bus stop that we have not requested,” Abreu insisted.
According to the spokeswoman, they promised to look for a technical solution “of which until now they have not spoken and since then there has been no communication with the Cabildo.”
The mayor emphasized that the City Council and the platform “do not have the technical capacity to find a solution to a problem that is 42 years old.” And despite this, they have presented two proposals to solve the obstacle of leaving for Santa Cruz. Both will be delivered to the Cabildo on April 19, taking advantage of the concentration that the platform has called in front of the Island Palace.
