
The Holy Week in Adeje returns after two years of hiatus due to the pandemic and will recover all the processions and the representation of La Pasión.
“We are happy, it is the Holy Week of the return to normality and for Adeje It has a double reading. On the one hand, as a tourist town, where we hope to receive people who come to enjoy their vacations; and on the other hand, as a municipality that respects, cares for and loves its traditions”, said the mayor, José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga, at the presentation ceremony.
The councilor highlighted the innovative staging of La Pasión: “We combine the television-film format and the live performance in the Plaza de España. We have made the need, virtue or the problem, opportunity, we are going to have an excellent filmed product that will allow us to promote our municipality as a sun and beach holiday destination, but also as a heritage, gastronomic, cultural and ethnographic destination”.
For her part, the Councilor for Culture, María Clavijo, stressed that “resuming activity has not been an easy task, but we have done it in collaboration with the parishes and all areas of the council.”
Alberto Álvarez, coordinator of the Culture area, indicated that “almost all the scenes of La Pasión have been filmed in various natural and heritage sites in the municipality, always with amateur actors and actresses.” The broadcast of the film will link with the direct one in the Plaza España where the meeting of Mary with Jesus and his subsequent crucifixion will take place.

The retransmission can be seen on Friday, April 15, at 12 noon, on Canarian Television, Mírame TV, 13 TV nationwide, Channel 4 Tenerife and Channel 10. Three hundred people participate in the Representation of La Pasión, including cast, management, assistants, operating personnel, art, props, costumes or makeup. Over the years, Monday the 11th has become a must-attend event during Holy Week in Adejera with a solemn procession where the images are accompanied by representatives of the security forces and bodies, Volunteer Firefighters as well as the Military Band. The procession will tour the streets of the neighborhood of La Postura with the images of Our Captive Lord, Our Lady of Consuelo, San Juan, and the Christ of Las Penas, It will begin at 8:30 p.m.
On Tuesday, April 12, the Holy Encounter will be after the Eucharist at 6:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, at 7:00 p.m., one of the most traditional processions will take place with one of the oldest images in the municipality, known as the Lord of the Piedra, while on Holy Thursday the Procession of the Mandate will be held and the following day those of the Holy Burial and of Silence.
