The City Council, through the public company Municipal Services of Granadilla de Abona (Sermugran), informs the residents of the Galdós building that “at no time has there been any communication or intention to carry out any eviction”. Measure ratified to the Platform of Affected in the course of the last plenary session.
The Galdós building, located in the area of La Jurada (San Isidro), is made up of 76 protected homes of special regime, according to its definitive qualification. They have been inhabited for a decade on a rent-to-own basis for a period of ten years. For this reason, on March 9, the municipal company sent an official communication to the residents stating that the exercise of the right of option to purchase must be communicated “before June 12”, taking into account that “the contracts of Current leases end, for all purposes, on September 12 of this year.
In the same document, the 76 families were informed that “in the case of not exercising said right, if it is the tenant’s wish to continue using the home, the company will proceed to offer a new rental relationship.”
The neighborhood spokespersons stated before the Plenary that they had received the communication that they could be evicted and from the PSOE it was recorded that the measure transferred by the municipal government in that document was previously considered illegal by CC and PP.
From the Consistory of Granada and the public company, “as already indicated in its day”, they insisted yesterday that “the tenant families would never be acted upon who, due to different circumstances and once the rental period has ended , they could not face the purchase of the property ». Likewise, they reiterated that “the necessary alternatives would be sought for the benefit of those people in a situation of greater vulnerability, as has already been done on other occasions when it comes to facilitating the payment of rents when they could not be paid by their tenants” .
The socialist spokeswoman, Jennifer Miranda, recalled that “Most of the tenants are in a situation of special vulnerability, they are dependent or elderly”, with difficulties in accessing a mortgage, as has happened in several cases.
