Canary Coalition (CC) is committed to the regasification plant and gas as a transition fuel and to lower the cost of electricity in Tenerife. The group’s nationalist spokesman in the Cabildo, Carlos Alonso, explains that the use of gas would reduce spending on the generation of electricity in its combined cycles by replacing diesel, for which he requests that the Island Corporation “promote the project, together with the Port Authority, so that Tenerife does not lose competitiveness».
Carlos Alonso considers the Spanish Government’s proposal to liberalize the gas plants to be positive, but warns that the problem “is that we see a lot of debate, but little action in Tenerife. Here we continue without a specific project, while in Gran Canaria they already have the authorized project for bunkering and the production of electricity. Pedro Martín says that he is in favor of the regasification plant, but the Government of the Canary Islands does not want it. What will happen? Will the project go ahead or will they paralyze it? ”, Reflects the nationalist adviser.
“If we don’t have the regasification plant, Tenerife will lose competitiveness because the boats will go to Puerto de la Luz, in Gran Canaria, to be supplied,” explains Alonso. He points out that “this infrastructure will allow us to lower the costs of power generation and reduce pollution. Currently, we produce energy with a type of plant based only on fuel and it is very polluting».
The Tenerife regasification plant is the industrial facility that converts the liquefied natural gas that would come in ships into natural gas. The Port Authority has been considering a floating regasification plant in the Port of Granadilla for three years, “but we have not seen the project move forward. The Cabildo must promote it to have it operational as soon as possible.
