The City Council of The Massacre of Acentejo It has just approved a budget for 2022 that grows by 35.79% compared to 2021 and becomes, by far, the highest in the history of this municipality of just 9,000 inhabitants. Never before had the Matanzas Consistory been able to manage 17,544,000 euros, an amount that exceeds last year’s accounts by 4.6 million and that doubles those of 2013, 2014 or 2016. An increase based on the incorporation of the remainder (municipal savings) and contributions from other administrations.

The 17.5 million euros with which La Matanza faces 2022 are almost 10 million euros more than the entire 2012 budget (7.8 million euros) or triple the amount approved in 2001 (barely 5.5 million euros). With these accounts, the town smashes the previous budget record: 12.9 million euros in 2021, an amount that represented an increase of 25% compared to 2020.

The Mayor of Matanzas, Ignacio Rodriguez (PSOE), governs with an absolute majority since 1983 and knows what it is to manage this town with budgets of barely one million euros per year, at the end of the 80s of the 20th century. That is why he values the importance of having more resources this year than ever to face «the 2030 Agenda and the UN Sustainable Development Goals», in «a complex context, in which the foundations of a global transformation in our society and our way of life are being laid. A change that from the local to the general reaches all the parameters that make it up, from the way we relate to each other, health, education and citizen services, leisure and culture, communications, the economy and employment, mobility, digitization or the fight against climate change and inequalities… All this makes us think that we are no longer in a time of change but in a change of time.».

The incorporation of the remainder and external funds allow this large increase

With taxes and fees frozen, The slaughter it allows «increasing investment to generate employment without increasing fiscal pressure, thanks to the possibility of using the remaining treasury and an active policy of attracting external funds through the different calls of the rest of the administrations». Among the most important investments, the extension of the House of the Elderly (1,114,736 euros), the new Rural Hostel (1,500,000 euros) or the remodeling of the market (1,240,000 euros).
