SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 1 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The CC-PNC group of the Cabildo de Tenerife has shown its commitment to the regasification plant as a transition fuel and the lowering of electricity costs on the Island and has asked the Island Corporation to promote the project together with the Port Authority to that Tenerife does not lose competitiveness.
The nationalist spokesman, Carlos Alonso, explained that the use of gas “would lower the costs of generating electricity in its combined cycles by substituting gas oil for gas”, at the same time that he considered the Spanish Government’s proposal to liberalize the plants to be positive. but warned that the problem is that “we see a lot of debate, but little action in Tenerife”.
“Here we continue without a specific project while in Gran Canaria they already have the authorized project for bunkering and the production of electricity. Pedro Martín says that he is in favor of the regasification plant, but the Government of the Canary Islands does not want it. What will happen? Will the project go ahead or will it be paralyzed?” he asked.
“If we don’t have the regasification plant, Tenerife will lose competitiveness because the boats will go to Puerto de la Luz, in Gran Canaria,” explained Alonso. In addition, he pointed out that “this infrastructure” will allow lowering the costs of power generation and will reduce pollution “.” We are currently producing energy with a type of plant based only on fuel and it is very polluting, “he added.
“The Tenerife regasification plant is the industrial facility that converts liquefied natural gas, the one that would come in the supply ships, into natural gas. The Port Authority has planned a floating regasification plant in the Port of Granadilla for three years, but we have not seen that the project advances. The Cabildo must promote it to have it operational as soon as possible,” concluded the CC-PNC spokesman.
