SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 31. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Confluence Table of Doctors and Physicians Specialists in the Canary Islands area has threatened this Thursday to resume the strike if the Government of the Canary Islands continues to “ignore” them in the process of awarding places to end the abuse of temporality.

At a press conference they have demanded the President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, and the Minister of Health, Blas Trujillo, a meeting before next April 8, when the Executive is going to meet with the unions at the sectoral table.

According to the figures handled by the platform, in the Canary Islands there are more than 2,200 medical specialists in a temporary situation, which represents more than 65% of the workforce, and of these, more than 85% are in an abuse regime, recognized by the Court Superior Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU).

Sunil Lakhwani, hematologist at the University Hospital of the Canary Islands (HUC), recalled that the workers have been fighting for almost two years in which they have achieved, among other things, that the 2019 OPE be annulled, that a “disaster” for the organization of the SCS, and many doctors moved to the organic staff and for this reason, the strike was called off last year.

Now, he has indicated that they urgently need to meet with the Ministry before the sectoral table to explain “the numbers” and the census of workers in temporary abuse before a decision is made that is contrary to their interests.

“We do not understand that we are ignored,” he pointed out, even more so when the platform waited for the law on urgent measures to reduce temporary employment to be approved, as the Canarian Government had requested, because it allows for an extraordinary and regional solution to resolve the conflict.

Carolina López, a neurologist at the Doctor Negrín Hospital in Gran Canaria, has lamented the lack of communication with the Ministry, which does not even respond to the letters, and has stressed that the number of places that is decided for fixity is so important ” be the right one, not one less”.

He has shown his “discontent and concern” that Trujillo has summoned them to a meeting on April 13, five days after the sector meeting, and has stressed that they distanced themselves from the unions because they did not defend their interests, hence they created a strike committee.

UNNECESSARY ENTRY

He has insisted that the process of awarding places “can be done” once the state law was approved and does not understand that the conflict “has entrenched in an unfortunate and unnecessary way.” “It is not our intention to go on strike but if necessary, we will,” she added.

Gabriel González, an anesthetist at the Hospital de La Candelaria (Tenerife), has accused the Executive of “passing the roller” and leaving no choice but to go on strike –in fact, the concentrations have already begun at the doors of the hospitals and the informative assemblies–.

“The fire is going to continue to rise much to our regret,” he detailed, given that the Government puts them “at the tail” when it comes to negotiating.

In addition, he has commented that “there are no words to describe the physical and emotional state” of the workers during the pandemic in the midst of the abuse of temporality, for which he understands that it is an “act of justice” to end the process of consolidating positions.
