SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 31. (EUROPE PRESS) –
A total of twenty male and female students from the Fernando Estévez School of Art and Superior Design, who are taking the cycles of Sculptural Techniques, Ephemeral Architecture, Shows and Window Dressing, were the architects of part of the props that adorned the set design of the opera ‘Florencia en el Amazonas’, a national premiere that was hosted by Auditorio de Tenerife between March 22 and 26.
The School became a sculpture workshop that shaped, in just one month, the decorative elements of the first act, which takes place in a market, for which they created all kinds of fruits and vegetables to set the scene. Banana pineapples, avocados, melons and watermelons gave color and caught the attention of the public attending each pass.
The task entrusted to this center was an opportunity of high educational value in which the young people followed the instructions of the set director Izmir Ickbal, who, in addition to having extensive experience in this department, was nominated for the Los Angeles Drama Awards Critics Circle, for his work on the show ‘Happy Days’.
It is not the first time that the School collaborates with Ópera de Tenerife in the construction of the props. Previously, students and teachers participated in the shows ‘Lucía de Lammemoor’, ‘Hansel y Gretel’ or ‘La Bohème’, each one with a different level of aesthetic demand and concepts. “Students must end up understanding that part of their future work will be, to a large extent, commissioned work, with very specific requirements. So these experiences give a real vision of the possibilities offered by the labor market on the islands for everyone them”, points out the professor of the Volume department and coordinator of this initiative, Alexis Izquierdo.
In ‘Florencia en el Amazonas’ it was the Sculpture students who had the greatest weight in the project, “but on other occasions it has been Fashion, Photography or Graphic Design,” he added.
“This type of collaboration with institutions as relevant as Ópera de Tenerife is very important for this center and also for the students, since it places them in a reality very close to the one they will live as graduates, once they finish their studies. Being a real project, with a delivery date and a high level of demand, motivation invaded each classroom and that, without a doubt, helps us to improve”, reiterated Izquierdo.
