The final schedule of Santa Cruz Carnival It was made public this Wednesday. The great chicharrera party will become the first great show of the post-COVID era in the Canary Islands, once all restrictions have been lifted imposed by the regional government. The evolution of the pandemic has ended up proving the Santa Cruz City Council right in its decision to delay the celebration of the festival until June, which will allow for a Carnival of “contests, galas and street”.

This was defended yesterday by the Councilor for Fiestas, Alfonso Cabello, who admitted to being “tremendously satisfied” with the decision to delay it until June, “a decision that will cause a great economic impact on the city, and that makes it the first great spectacle in the post-COVID era”.

Definitive schedule of the Santa Cruz Carnival

After the inauguration of Carnival 2022, which will take place on June 3 at 9:30 p.m. at the Fairgrounds, the Rondallas premiere, on Saturday June 4 at 5:00 p.m., the calendar of competitions in the emblematic Guimerá Theater stage. On Sunday 5, and already on the boards of the Tenerife Fairgrounds, the Choreographic Festival will begin at 5:00 p.m.

The Guimerá Theater will also host the Los Fregolinos concert on Tuesday, June 7 at 8:30 p.m. One day later, on Wednesday, June 8, also at 8:30 p.m., it will be the turn of the La Zarzuela Festival.

Continuing with the definitive calendar of the Santa Cruz Carnival, during the second weekend of June, the Election Gala of the Carnival Queen will be held on Friday, June 10 at 9:30 p.m. On Saturday, June 11 at 9:00 p.m., it will be the turn for the Musical Groups Contest and on Sunday, June 12, starting at 5:00 p.m., it will be the Election Gala of the Queen of the Elderly.

From Monday 13 to Wednesday 15 June, the 3 phases of the adult murgas will take place at the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival, starting at 9:00 p.m., with the final being held on Friday, June 17, also at 9:00 p.m. :00 hours. The Comparsas Contest will be on Saturday, June 18 at 9:00 p.m.; and closes the week, the Children’s Queen Election Gala, which will be on Sunday, June 19 at 6:00 p.m.

In the last week of June, the 3 phases of the children’s murgas contest will take place, from Monday 20 to Wednesday 22 June, starting at 9:00 p.m.

Thursday, June 23, will be when, starting at 9:00 p.m., the Carnival starts in the street. On Friday, June 24 at 7:00 p.m., the traditional Carnival Announcement Cavalcade will begin, which will give way to night dances on the different stages distributed throughout the streets of Santa Cruz. On Saturday, June 25, the Day Carnival will be held, which will continue until it merges with the second night carnival.

On Sunday, June 26, and as the culmination of the 2022 Carnival calendar, the Day Carnival will be held to conclude at 8:00 p.m. with the Rhythm and Harmony Contest on Anaga Avenue. Then, the End of the party and the Pyrotechnic Exhibition will close this edition, the most anticipated, as reflected in the definitive calendar of the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

MAY FESTIVALS

The Santa Cruz City Council opened this week the registration periods to participate in the different contests and events planned for the May Festivities 2022. The registration of the candidates for Queen of the May Festivities will close on April 4.

This period will also be valid to complete the participations in the Children’s Magician and Magician Contest; the XLV Regional Exhibition of Flowers and Plants and Canarian Crafts; the sample of Canarian Gastronomic Crafts. For the natural flower Crosses contests and the XIV School Crosses Exhibition Contest made with recycled materials; Next to the Exhibition of crosses on the Rambla de Santa Cruz, the deadline for submitting applications will be until April 20. On the other hand, the registration period for the Contest of typical Canarian foods will end on May 4; being held in the Alameda del Duque de Santa Elena, on Monday, May 30.
