Providing the Ten-Bel urbanization with photovoltaic energy, as a priority option, is one of the options valued by the residents of the communities in which more than 4,000 people reside. To do this, they are studying forming an energy company to, with European and municipal funds, install the necessary infrastructure that will allow them to guarantee the future energy supply with clean energy. An initiative that, in addition, they say that the local government itself put on the table, which would be part of this “local energy company”.
This proposal is being analyzed by the communities that make up Ten-Bel and requires prior studies to determine its viability. The investment would be increased by the necessary renovation of the urbanization’s electrical wiring, which requires its adaptation to the current standard given its age, as well as the installation of a meter per dwelling, which is one of the priority objectives of the more than 1,500 families who live in this residential and tourist complex in Costa del Silencio.
Luca Mastrantonio, a resident of the Eureka community, explains that those affected by the power outage that occurred at the end of 2021 they try to advance in the search for definitive solutions. On December 29, Endesa cut off the electricity to all of Ten-Bel because the company holding the contract, Ten Bel Turismo SL, had not paid for consumption for months. Ten hours later, already on December 30, those affected, some 1,500 families (more than 4,000 people), recovered the service through generators that remained in use for 43 days, until last February 10. In that period, some communities had difficulty paying their rent and the fuel needed to keep them running.
Residents try to advance in specifying solutions so as not to reproduce the power outage that affected the area for 43 days
The administrator of the company Ten Bel Turismo SL, Ángel Cristóbal, then confirmed that the process is open to proceed to individualize the control of spending and payment by communities. The marketing company, the company Endesa, the General Directorate of Industry of the Government of the Canary Islands and the Arona City Council itself participate in this procedure. «The marketer has advanced the individualization project, starting by applying it at the community level. Then, the possibility that each owner may have a personal contract will be evaluated, something complicated considering that Ten-Bel has tourist use, something that makes it difficult.
But Ten-Bel is pending its reception by the Arona City Council. In this regard, Mastrantonio points out that the file is at the time of collecting the final reports.
