The Municipality of Puerto de la Cruz has recently started the payment of subsidies to about thirty sports clubs and individual athletes of different disciplines, corresponding to calls for the years 2019, 2020 and 2021. The total amount granted amounts to €240,000.
The Councilor for Sports, Alberto Cabo (ACP), remember that “the last grants that were awarded were those of 2018, although the payment was made in 2020.” In his opinion, “having managed to resume them and move them forward represents support and a boost for clubs and athletes to continue their activity, overcome the economic consequences of the pandemic and stay in a context as complicated as the one we are experiencing».
“The last subsidies that were granted were those of 2018, although they were not paid until 2020”
Cabo stresses that “the fulfillment of this commitment is a stimulus to continue working for the sport of Cross port, as there is still much to be done.” The aid that the clubs have begun to receive, granted on a competitive basis, is intended to finance projects that have been carried out to promote activities of promotion, development and sports development, as well as to cover the expenses derived from the participation in island, regional or national competitions organized by official entities, during the periods between March 15, 2019 and March 14, 2020 and between March 15, 2020 and June 30, 2021.
During the last months, the Department of Sports of the Porto City Council has carried out, through different workshops given with the collaboration of the Department of Citizen Participation, a work of accompaniment and advice to the clubs of the municipality in order to prepare them to request and justify these subsidies. “The administrative and bureaucratic processes are sometimes not easy and it is part of our obligation to offer tools to make them more accessible,” concludes Cabo.
