The Council of Tenerife and the Tegueste City Council organize the first art and agriculture festival held in the municipality, under the name ‘CultivArte’ and that will be held on Saturday and Sunday at the Tegueste Farmer and Artisan Market.
The ‘CultivArte’ festival aims to offer a space to young artists in which they can show their artistic production and project the symbiosis between agriculture, culture and local identity.
The Councilor for Youth of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Concepción Rivero, pointed out at a press conference that through this event, part of the ‘Merkarte’ project, the aim is to make the talent of young people visible and offer them the opportunity to start in the art sector.
To this he added that “the Tegueste Market will become an art gallery, in which 13 artists linked to the Merkarte project will participate.”
The counselor also invited citizens to join and participate in this activity.
“It is going to be a spectacular occasion and I hope that a large audience will attend next Saturday and Sunday and that they will enjoy the set of initiatives that are going to be developed,” he said.
The exhibition will combine workshops of different artistic disciplines such as watercolors or, for example, ceramics that will be taught by the young people of ‘Merkarte’, with contemporary dance shows, gastronomic and music workshops, live cooking sessions and other activities, from 08:00 to 14:00.
The mayor of Tegueste, Ana Rosa Mena, explained that from the council, in collaboration with the Association of the Market, “a great commitment is being made to revitalize the market, combining the offer of local products with attractive actions for locals and visitors of all the ages, under the umbrella of the ‘Merkagastroarte’ initiative”.
Mena insisted that “it is a transversal activity because there is art, culture and agriculture, natural and nearby products that are sold in the market, a showcase that is visited by many people.”
The insular director of Youth, Isabel Bello, pointed out that ‘MerKarte’ tries to make visible and give an opportunity to the young creators of the island.
Now, he said, “we have given a new approach to the project that, although it retains the essence, the Christmas exhibition, we wanted to take the project towards the employability of the participants, so that they can begin to have experiences of professionalization.”
In addition, he added that from the area of Education and Youth they want tor an “appeal” to all entities, both private and public, to have the artists of Merkarte”.
‘CultivArte’ has the ultimate goal of empowering artisans, farmers and ranchers in the region, through art, in order to link and spread the importance of the primary sector among young people.
