Ramón Trujillo, spokesperson for United We Can in the Santa Cruz City Council, denounced yesterday that, since February 1, there are about 90 people hired by the City Council who have been without work for more than a month, due to the “incompetence and managerial incapacity of the Bermúdez government”. “In fact -he continued- even today some of these people are still paid without having started working, after almost two months hired”.
Trujillo pointed out that the people hired, in the context of an agreement signed between the Santa Cruz City Council and the Government of the Canary Islands, are forced to have their vacation time before starting work, “because the Bermúdez government is unable to organize work and provide proper equipment on time.”
People hired by the City Council, according to the UP spokesman, for the period between February and December 2022, will not be able to aspire to enjoy their vacation time when it suits them, depending on family reconciliation. In addition, they are forced to stay on vacation when they should be working. Some people benefited by the agreement have turned to United We Can, explains Trujillo, fearing that a vacation period that exceeds what is legally prescribed could harm them. For its part, the formation asked the government group for explanations yesterday for the misuse of public resources.
From the Public Services area, the responsible mayor, Carlos Tarife, explained yesterday that “since the beginning of this employment initiative, we have spent all this time to award a base contract for the supply of Epis”. According to the mayor, the delay is due to the fact that “first there were delays by the winning company in submitting the necessary documentation for its formalization, and then the process between Intervention and Public Services has been followed, but we hope that this week the decree will come out. the signature and the equipment can be supplied”, specified Tarife.
