48 million to connect the coast with the Reverón treatment plant

The state trading company Aguas de las Cuencas de España (Acuaes), attached to the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, takes out tender for the contract for the execution of the works and the performance tests of the collectors and impulsions associated with the treatment plant of Montaña Reverón, to build in the municipality of Arona. The works will directly benefit the area of the municipality located to the East, up to the Guaza Mountain.

The base budget for the contract tender amounts to 48,146,837 euros and the term for its execution is 27 months, of which 21 correspond to the period to complete the works and half a year to develop the start-up phase.

These works have the declaration of general interest and are part of the agreement signed on July 8, 2020 by the Cabildo and the Insular Council of Waters of Tenerife (Ciatf) with the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge. It aims to execution and operation of various infrastructures and actions in sanitation and purification on the Island. Among them are those that affect the so-called Arona Este-San Miguel system, the complete completion of which requires an estimated investment of around 80 million euros.

The play

The collectors and impulsions is one of the projects to be developed. The tender, published yesterday, is for the construction of pumping stations, impulsions and collectors. All of this will make it possible to connect the Arona Este sanitation system with the Montaña Reverón treatment plant.

The Las Galletas and Cho Treatment and Pumping Stations (Etbar) will transfer the discharges produced in the area located between the South Highway (TF-1) and the Arona coast. The new drives that come from Costa del Silencio, Guaza and the future Palm-Mar will connect to them. The area located to the north of the motorway will discharge directly into the new treatment plant. Acuaes summarizes that the work will add 40 kilometers of pipes, as well as the 13 kilometers of the land outfall of the Montaña Reverón treatment plant.

The works of the collectors and drives corresponding to the municipality of San Miguel will soon be put out to tender, as announced by the public company.

The President of the Council, Peter Martinyesterday expressed his satisfaction with the announcement of Acuaes because “an answer will be given to the problem (of discharges) that occurs in San Miguel, Las Galletas or in Palm-Mar”.

the treatment plant

This system includes, in addition to the network of collectors and impulsions, the construction of a treatment plant for a population of 232,936 equivalent inhabitants for the time horizon of 2036, which will treat the wastewater from the eastern area of Arona, as well as that of San Miguel from Abona and, in the future, those from Vilaflor, especially those produced in towns with more than 2,000 inhabitants.

In June of last year, and for 22,149,527 euros, the drafting of the project was awarded, execution of works, start-up and test operation of the Montaña Reverón Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). The UTE Aquambiente, Services for the Water Sector, SAU-Sociedad General de Obras, SA (Sogeosa) has 48 months to build it.

This set of works will solve the problem of direct discharges without adequate treatment through the submarine outfalls located in San Miguel, Las Galletas and Palm-Mar. In addition, it is contemplated to regenerate the treated wastewater for reuse in agricultural irrigation.
