The highest representative body of the educational community of Santa Cruz, the School Council, has not met effectively since last September. This is how the councilor of the PSOE, Elena Mateo, denounces it, who today takes a motion to the plenary session to demand the start-up of this body that, if it continues without meeting, she assures, “it will lead us to the end of the school year without any Not a single meeting.” And it is that, according to the councilor, “the Education and Youth area is limited to convening every three months, which is what the law establishes, to immediately suspend the meeting due to lack of a quorum.” “Not once -he continues- have they been interested in finding the date on which all the members can participate, leaving the date of the call to come to suspend and call within another three months”.
For Mateo, this way of acting demonstrates the “total lack of commitment and the null concern to listen to the educational community in its demands, in addition to the fact that in certain aspects it is mandatory to have the pronouncement of the School Council.”
That is why today, in the motion presented by the PSOE, the Government team will be reminded of the functions of the School Council, which go through obtaining access for all the inhabitants of the municipality to the educational and cultural levels that allow their personal and social fulfillment. , and to promote, to this end, as many actions as are necessary in order to compensate for deficiencies in educational opportunities; promote the promotion of awareness of Canarian identity, by promoting research, dissemination and knowledge of the historical, cultural and linguistic values of the Canarian people; and promote the improvement of the quality of teaching in all its aspects.
“Given this unprecedented outrage to the participation and knowledge of the School Council, from the municipal socialist group, we request that the municipal school council be convened immediately and in any case that the call be made before the end of March and the provisions of article 10 of its statutes are respected, and its ordinary sessions must be held quarterly”.
Mateo also recalls that this same Department has not convened and held the Youth Council since 2020. “We are surprised that the two citizen participation bodies that the area has are not being consciously developed by their manager, alienating the citizenship of the work that is being developed in their area”, he concludes.
