Alonso (CC-PNC) censures that the Cabildo “is richer” and society “poorer” and Fernández charges against the “inaction” of Pedro Martín
SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 25. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The plenary session of the Cabildo de Tenerife, with the votes against PSOE, Sí Podemos and Cs, has rejected this Friday a motion from the Nationalist Group –with an amendment from the Popular Group– in which it proposed an economic relief plan worth 68 million euros that included a reduction in taxes and the price of transport, among other measures.
Both the vice president of the Cabildo, Enrique Arriaga (Cs), and the Minister of Finance, Berta Pérez (PSOE), have agreed that the corporation should not rush and take measures that are “coordinated” with those of the European Union, the State and the Government of the Canary Islands to guarantee its effectiveness.
The CC-PNC spokesman, Carlos Alonso, commented that the Cabildo “has left many people behind”, giving as an example that many SMEs closed on the island “waiting for help from Fifede”, for which he has asked that now , in this new stage of the crisis, do not be left behind again.
He has lamented that the government group does not have alternative plans and has assured that “the picture” of the current reality of the island is that “the Cabildo is rich” because inflation increases its collection “and many people are poor.”
Along these lines, he criticized the fact that the Cabildo continues “without reacting to lead” out of the crisis while the people of Tenerife “get poorer” and in two years it has stopped executing 340 million.
His colleague Efraín Medina has lamented that an agreement has not been reached regarding the measures and has asked himself “what are the administrations doing”, in this case the Cabildo, to help resolve the price increase.
María José Belda, spokesperson for Sí Podemos, has commented that she supports some CC-PNC measures, such as lowering the prices of public transport fares, but has rejected a general cut in taxes because it will affect public services.
Likewise, he hopes that both the State and the EU are right with the measures to contain the rise in prices while he has regretted that a public electricity company has not been created and has made Alonso ugly for generating a “hate speech” by stating that the Cabildo is rich and society is poor.
Berta Pérez has criticized the “populist desire” of the nationalists in the midst of a social and economic “catastrophe” derived from the pandemic and now due to inflation and the war in Ukraine, and has advocated taking “coordinated” measures with other institutions.
“YOU DO NOT GO LIKE HEADLESS CHICKENS,” SAYS BERTA PÉREZ
“You don’t have to go like headless chickens,” he commented, noting that many of the measures requested by the CC-PNC are already being applied, such as the increase in scholarships, the freezing of transport and water rates, or the increase in the budget. in social action.
He has branded as “incongruous” that it is requested to lower taxes and also to give aid to the affected sectors and has defended that a remnant of treasury be left in the accounts of the corporation in case the crisis drags on in the coming years and fiscal rigor returns.
Manuel Fernández, spokesman for the Popular Group, has indicated that the economic and social situation in Tenerife “is very serious” and the Cabildo “has to react now”, to the point that he put on the table that the free public transport be studied for vulnerable groups.
He has remarked that the Cabildo “is rich”, with almost 200 million in the accounts, “and society is getting poorer”, the result of a “very serious inaction” and “lack of leadership” by the president, Pedro Martín. “We cannot stand still, the government is far from reality”, he pointed out.
Arriaga has acknowledged that he shares the “diagnosis” of the CC-PNC on the economic and social context of the island but has affirmed that many of its measures are already applied and that there is no need to rush and wait for the other institutions to coordinate and “be effective”.
