
The plenary session of the Santa Cruz City Council will today give the green light to the agreement between the City Council and the Santa Cruz Port Authority whereby the swimming pool of the CEIP Miguel Pintor, which is located on port land, can be used by the sports clubs of the municipality . As stated in the text of the aforementioned agreement, “taking into account that the number of municipal sports facilities in Santa Cruz de Tenerife is scarce in relation to the demand made for them by the different sports clubs in the municipality, it is required of the signing of this agreement in such a way that these clubs are allowed to use the swimming pool belonging to the CEIP Miguel Pintor, committing the City Council of Santa Cruz de Tenerife to carry out conditioning and maintenance actions for said facility”.
The mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, confirms that “this agreement signed by the Sports area with the Port Authority allows the swimming pool of the Miguel Pintor public school to be incorporated into the network of municipal sports facilities, initially for the use of sports teams. federated, but which may be used by citizens during non-school hours later” and announces that, at present, “it is part of an alternative that must be generated while the reform and expansion works of the future sports complex next to the stadium last ”, while specifying that “it is also a strategy that is part of the request for the transfer of the disaffected land from the public domain of the Port Authority in the functional area of Tahodio, made up of the plot currently occupied by the College of Infant and Primary Education (CEIP)”.
For her part, the Councilor for Sports, Alicia Cebrián, points out that “sports demand in Santa Cruz is very high and in order to solve this problem that many sports clubs in the city are facing, we have reached this agreement, where to allow the use of the Miguel Pintor swimming pool by the Sports Service of the Santa Cruz City Council during non-school hours, that is, during the afternoons and on weekends” and adds that “in return, the Sports Service undertakes to carry out the actions of conditioning and maintenance of said swimming pool”.
“This agreement with the Port Authority -he continued- is very good news for sports in the city because having one more swimming pool in the city is very interesting because we continue to develop and achieve the objectives set by the sports service that is the of favoring the promotion of sports and physical activity”, pointed out the mayor of santacrucera.
Finally, Alicia Cebrián pointed out that “in this case, moreover, by entering a school, we are going to achieve the promotion of swimming among the students of said center”.
As stated in the agreement, the Sports area must make an initial investment of almost 15,000 euros, which it will cover through a smaller contract and which will be used to refurbish the pool for the use of clubs and neighbors. All this, until the subscription by the City Council’s Sports Service, of the comprehensive maintenance contract for the sports facilities, integrating it into the object of the same.
