SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 25. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The ‘Canaries for Peace’ platform has called for rallies in support of the Saharawi people on various islands of the archipelago against the central government’s change of position regarding the open conflict in Western Sahara.
The marches begin this Friday in Lanzarote and will continue this Saturday, between 11:00 and 12:00, on the islands of Tenerife, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria and El Hierro.
In a statement, the platform shows its “full rejection” of the position expressed by the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, “in contradiction” with international law, since neither the UN, the African Union, the International Court of Justice and the Court Union recognize Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara.
Along these lines, it indicates that “Spain throughout history has demonstrated its political and treacherous self-righteousness by delivering the Saharawi people into the hands of the Moroccan satrap dictator” and maintains that “Spain’s responsibility as the administering power of the Sahara does not expire while the Saharawi people have not been able to exercise their inalienable right to self-determination and independence”.
In his opinion, “the change in position of the Spanish Government lacks credibility since it contradicts international legitimacy.”
The platform points out that “by supporting the Moroccan occupation of the Sahara, Spain is fueling the Moroccan aggression against the Saharawi people and the policy of fait accompli of Rabat’s expansionism, giving steps to the bourgeois-Moroccan monarchical dictatorship to continue committing crimes against humanity. against the Saharawi people and permanent looting of its territorial wealth in violation of international resolutions on the decolonization of the Sahara”.
For this reason, he states that “the Canarian people, neighbors of the Saharawi people, cannot remain impassive before the position of the Spanish Government, the result of permanent blackmail by the dictatorship of the Moroccan monarchy.”
