SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 24. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant of the Polígono de Güímar is now fully operational after the start-up of the biological reactor last Monday.
“We had promised to return to this station when it was working, and today we do it to check that the machinery is working,” said the president of the Cabildo, Pedro Martín, during his visit to the facilities this Thursday accompanied by the mayor of Candelaria , Mari Brito and the mayors of Güímar, Gustavo Pérez and Arafo, Juan Ramón Martín.
“This is not going to stop,” assured the president, who added that from now on “working will continue to improve accesses and deposits that are yet to be completed.”
Martín pointed out that it is going to take advantage of the fact that it is a new treatment plant to install a series of systems that do not exist in other older stations, “these are processes that will carry out even finer purification, deposits for the treatment of sludge, even a that will serve as a resource in the event of an unexpected spill or devices to improve noise”.
Specifically, he emphasized the installation of systems for deodorization.
The president of the Cabildo concluded the visit indicating that these works “will be resolved in four months” and assured that “the important thing is that now this treatment plant works, it does not give any problem and a problem of many years in this polygon has been solved”.
Martín thanked the efforts of the municipalities of Arafo, Candelaria and Güímar, which together with the Cabildo, “have worked together so that this setback is resolved and that the companies that are located here no longer have to fear any type of closure.”
For his part, the Minister for Sustainable Development and the Fight Against Climate Change, Javier Rodríguez, explained that this visit confirms the “proper functioning of a plant that solves a historical problem in the region, and that it is one more step towards change of model of wastewater treatment on the island”.
In his opinion, “Tenerife is facing the solution to something that everyone complained about, but it seems that nobody dared to face it, now the Cabildo has taken the reins to solve this serious problem.”
