Tenerife travels to ‘Madrid Fusión’ with 70 professionals and the second largest exhibitor at the congress

Tenerife will significantly increase its presence this year at the ‘International Congress of Gastronomy Madrid Fusion 2022‘ with a space of 200 square meters, the second largest exhibitor of this meeting, to which the island will bring the best products of its primary sector and its gastronomy.

Thus, more than 70 professionals will participate and a complete program will be offered scheduled for the 28th, 29th and 30th of this month.

The president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Peter Martinthe island councilor for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Javier Parrilla, the island’s director of Tourism, Laura Castro, and the CEO of Tenerife Tourism, David Pérez, presented this Thursday the details of the island’s participation in the congress that celebrates its 20th anniversary.

Martín stressed that “this year having professionals from the world of gastronomy, the primary sector and crafts, but also with the municipalities of Santiago del Teide, Adeje and a representation of the Northwest Region of Tenerife, is especially important because this project consists of uniting wills to spread all the good that is generated around the products and the talent of those who work in this field”.

The president also highlighted “the importance of involving the areas of Tourism and Agriculture in this project because both are strategic for Tenerife and it seems essential that they go hand in hand so that the activity continues to grow”.

In his opinion, “we have to insert foundations and solidity into the always fragile structure of the Tenerife economy, if with this contribution we manage to strengthen the gastronomic sector and the primary sector we will be on the right track”.

Parrilla highlighted “tradition, innovation and authenticity, as well as emotions” as “keys” of the exhibitor from Tenerife and highlighted the work, dedication and effort made by all those behind the “rich and diverse” island gastronomy.

Within the planned programming, he highlighted the importance of the participation of winemakers from the island’s appellations of origin, as well as the boost that artisanal cheeses will have in a specific presentation by the Tenerife Cheesemakers Association.

“It is very important for the sector that this is seen in the largest gastronomic space in Europe, Furthermore, this year we celebrate 400 years of beautiful potatoes, and we will also put them in the forefront, without leaving behind the subtropical fruit,” said the minister.

For Parrilla, “the union that this space represents in the agriculture, livestock and fishing of the island will have its return, not only in advertising, but also in the economy, in the tranquility and in the business confidence that the primary sector requires at this time “.

ECOLOGICAL AND HEALTHY PRODUCTS

The insular presence will be most striking with a daily program for professionals of breakfasts, lunches and snacks, tastings and workshops, highlighted Laura Castro, who stressed that “gastronomic promotion is also accompanied by sustainability management , so important for a leading tourist destination like Tenerife, in addition to the promotion of the local product of proximity and organic and healthy products”.

The insular director of Tourism assured that “‘Madrid Fusión’ is a great opportunity to defend what it means to be from the sea, from the volcano, from the landscape, and all the culture and tradition”.

“We want to reach last year’s circulation figures, when we had an audience of more than 61 million people, and we also want our prescribers to feel a surprise effect, and of course to generate a souvenir for them so that they can take it to those people who want to know the products of Tenerife from afar”, he indicated.

Castro also pointed out that with Acyre Spain, as has been done in previous years, “a donation will be made with the food that is not consumed during the fair.”

For the CEO of Tourism of Tenerife, David Pérez, the island will grow again in this edition and this year it does so through talent because “it is increasing by occupying various spaces, in the displaced team, in the number and diversity of activities, in include students in the congress for the first time, crafts also make their debut in ‘Madrid Fusión’ and the presence of gastronomy from our counties and municipalities”.

Within the planned agenda, Tenerife will stand out in its landing at ‘Madrid Fusión 2022’ with two keynote speeches: Braulio Simancas, on the exquisiteness and differentiation of Tenerife fish and shellfish, and Rosalía Díaz, who will celebrate the arrival, 400 years, of the potato from Peru to Tenerife.

What’s more, Tenerife will present the ‘II National Contest of Dishes with Mojos de Tenerife’ harmonized with Vinos de Tenerife, a contest to which thirty contestants from all over the national territory have signed up and in which six finalists have been chosen.

The contest, with two prizes, will distinguish the Best Mojo and the Best Dish with Mojo harmonized with Vinos de Tenerife.

The ‘fourth leg’ of the promotion of Tenerife in MF22 focuses on the Wines of Tenerife.

So in el ‘Wine Edition’, Tenerife will be present at the inauguration with a master tasting of the great Tenerife Wines, by David Seijas, former sommelier of El Bulli, and María Hontoria from the Cabildo de Tenerife.

The Wines of Tenerife will be available to all the professionals attending the congress during the three days, and the Cabildo has designed more space and a greater presence of brands than last year, in which more than thousand professionals.

‘Taste Tenerife‘ will also have a space within the ‘Saborea España’ stand, with typical products, talks, workshops and tastings.
