SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 24. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Housing of the Government of the Canary Islands has published this Thursday in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC) the resolution by which the project for the layout of the Circunvalación de The lagoon.
This is one of the most important road works planned in the archipelago both in terms of investment volume –355 million euros– and because of the traffic it is going to absorb, more than 80,000 vehicles a day that will be removed from the urban fabric of La Laguna that currently crosses the TF-5.
The high budget of the future work is justified because most of the route runs through a tunnel to preserve the environmental, agricultural and livestock values of the Vega de La Laguna and avoid the expropriation of homes, the Ministry details in a note.
With this public exhibition, a project “highly demanded” by the public administrations and by the Tenerife citizenry in general is promoted, since its realization will mean relieving a very important amount of traffic to the section of the TF-5 that crosses the urban area of the city of La Laguna to the Padre Anchieta roundabout, a road where traffic delays are frequently recorded.
The ring road is designed to absorb 76% of the vehicles that currently circulate on the section of the TF-5 that crosses the urban area of La Laguna, more than 110,000 vehicles per day according to the studies of Average Daily Intensity (IMD) of the Cabildo .
The new route, about six kilometers long, has been agreed upon by the Government’s Department of Public Works together with the Cabildo de Tenerife and the municipalities of La Laguna and Tacoronte, and will allow a direct connection to be established from Guamasa for all drivers coming from the north and want to travel to the metropolitan area without having to cross the urban area of La Laguna, allowing them to retake the current TF-5 at the height of the TF-13 or Vía de Ronda.
The ring road will run on one side of the Tenerife Norte-Los Rodeos airport and most of the route will be carried out under a tunnel, specifically 4.1 of the six kilometers planned for the route, hence the high cost of the project.
SIX FALSE TUNNELS
In addition, this solution has been chosen to preserve the natural, agricultural and landscape conditions of the Vega de La Laguna.
The tunnel, with a maximum slope of 3%, will be excavated to a great depth in order not to affect the surface, which avoids the expropriation of the houses located on the underground layout of the new Circunvalación.
In addition, six more false tunnels will be built along the route for the two new external links, in Guamasa, and next to the Vía de Ronda.
The layout project that is now subject to public exhibition was awarded in 2021 to the joint venture formed by the companies Subterra Engineering, SL, Engineering Consultants UG21, SL, Evalúa Soluciones Ambientales, SL and Society of Engineering, Services of the Territory and Environment , SA.
With the public exhibition, in addition to the access of any citizen to the project, all the public administrations and institutions involved in the route are communicated, as well as conservation organizations and the University of La Laguna so that they can make their contributions to the project.
