Podemos defends that the Government reflects “hope” in the face of the “catastrophic” reality of the opposition

SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 23. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The spokesperson for the Sí Podemos Canarias Parliamentary Group, Manuel Marrero, stated that the Debate on the State of Canarian Nationality has served to reflect “the two sides of the same coin: the positive, objective and hopeful side that the president’s speech represented Torres and the cross, the catastrophic reality, that of the doomsday of not everything that the Government proposes, of the worse the better to see if they soon recover their lost power.”

Regarding the request made yesterday to Ángel Víctor Torres by the president of the Popular Parliamentary Group, Manuel Domínguez, to break the pact with Podemos, Manuel Marrero wanted to make it clear that these statements did not take away his sleep: “It is an honor that consideration of the right, which at the same time has no problem governing with the extreme fascist right in many parts of the State. For you we are the only real opposition to your political proposals, of which we feel very honored”.

Manuel Marrero dedicated a large part of his speech to defending the management of Noemí Santana and her team at the Ministry of Social Rights, Equality, Diversity and Youth of the Government of the Canary Islands, who have worked “piece-rate” these three years to achieve the objective to “strongly” increase the protection of people in vulnerable situations in the Archipelago.

“Although it is an ambitious horizon, given the situation that we find ourselves at the beginning of the legislature, the pandemic and how much remains to be done, the data shows that there have never been so many people in the Canary Islands under the umbrella of social protection. This It represents a historic advance for families with scarce resources, for unprotected children, for dependent elderly people and their caregivers, or for victims of gender-based violence,” she said.

Marrero stressed that never in the recent history of the Canary Islands had a government had to face five simultaneous and overlapping crises, but he wanted to make it clear that the Executive “has clear commitments, with a roadmap based on participation and co-governance with the different sectors and the different administrations, as evidenced by the unity convened around the Reactive Canary Islands Plan, the Canary Islands Housing Plan, or the reconstruction process of the island of La Palma”.

The deputy highlighted that the health crisis, which has become an economic and social crisis, has been tackled in a coordinated manner by the European Union, the state coalition government and the Government of the Canary Islands, and the continued dialogue and consensus obtained between the Government, employers and unions is allowing the recovery of the social contract.

Regarding the war in Ukraine, the spokesman for the Parliamentary Group Yes We Can Canary Islands reiterated his condemnation of this war, the use of violence and weapons, the breach of international law and the violation of human rights. He advocated peace, dialogue, negotiation and agreement, sponsored by the United Nations Organization, and expressed his opposition to the growing arms race and bloc politics.

“HISTORICAL INDECENCE”

Likewise, he “firmly” reiterated his criticism of what he considers to be “historical indecency” with respect to the Saharawi people, whom the President of the State Government “seems to have left to their fate, intending thus to end the surrender of the territory of Western Sahara to Morocco”.

According to Marrero, “good neighborly relations cannot be subject to blackmail and extortion by one of the parties, but rather based on mutual respect and observance of international law and human rights. Any solution to the conflict must go through dialogue, within the consensus of the United Nations resolutions and, fundamentally, with respect for the democratic will of the Saharawi people”.

For this reason, it expects a majority agreement in this regard, better unanimous, of the positioning of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, as was done with the last PNL that Sí Podemos Canarias proposed to the group as a whole, defending, among other issues, the right to free self-determination of the Saharawi people.

Regarding the migratory phenomenon, Marrero stressed that the lack of a joint decision by the member countries of the European Union, together with the absence of solidarity and laws that force the redistribution of these immigrants, have led to the Canary Islands becoming in a place of “permanent parking, often in deplorable conditions, of thousands of people seeking a better life”.

Also, with respect to the island of La Palma, he highlighted the unity that has existed so far in the administrations as a whole, “working promptly and having legal and economic means to cushion the terrible damage caused and promote the promotion of economic activity and social in La Palma”.

According to Marrero, “the creation of a parliamentary commission in this regard, citizen participation, the availability of resources and collective intelligence, will make general interests prevail, with a vision of the future, and that each and every one of the people affected find a suitable solution”.
