SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 22. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The president of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, said on Tuesday that the archipelago is a “safe” tourist destination, although he admitted that the evolution of the market is an “unknown”.
“We are not clear about what is going to happen and how long the war is going to last,” he indicated in the reply to the Citizens (Cs) deputy, Ricardo Fernández, stressing that while in Turkey the reserves are falling on the islands they remain.
Thus, it has requested the central government to lower airport taxes so that air tickets do not become more expensive.
As it is not known how long the rise in prices will last and the war in Ukraine, he has commented that we must be “equipped” and at that point he has claimed the income pact so that a “balance” is reached between business profits and salaries.
Along these lines, he pointed out that prices must be “relocated” in the market within the EU, give aid to the affected sectors, take measures on fuels and review the prices of public contracts together with councils and municipalities.
Regarding the volcanic eruption, it has influenced the “effort” of the public administrations despite the fact that “the expectations” of the palm trees cannot be met, who have been an “example” for the entire country. “We have never had a misfortune of this magnitude but we have acted as quickly as possible,” he added.
Regarding the migratory crisis, he has indicated that it is a “structural situation” on the islands and has regretted that the asylum and protection order has not been activated “within 24 hours” for Syrian, Afghan or African refugees.
Likewise, he has defended the central government’s respect for the REF and predicted that there will be “more conflicts” before the Constitutional Court with the Government of Spain because each administration defends its powers.
