SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 22. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The spokesman for the Gomeran Socialist Group (ASG) in the Parliament of the Canary Islands, Casimiro Curbelo, has argued that the archipelago has had “the best possible government” at “the worst” time.
The top leader of ASG, which is part of the government pact at the head of the regional Executive, stated in the first reaction to the opening speech of the Canarian president in the Debate on the State of Canarian nationality that “Canarian society has not gone bankrupt thanks to government action”.
In his opinion this “would not have been possible with any government of any sign” and stressed that this has been “the best government in the worst times.”
Curbelo defended that it would not have been possible to attend to social services “if there had not been extraordinary resources in the pandemic crisis” and that this Executive has “maintained them rigorously” and “attended”, in addition, to the “productive fabric”.
Thus, he said that there are “positive indicators” in employment and advocated “joining and harmonizing” with the EU and the Government of Spain the “extraordinary measures” necessary to “help the sectors that have difficulty” at the moment.
He recalled that for the Canary Islands, transport is an “essential service” and asked the opposition to add: “Doing things based on consensus, it is not reasonable that we propose an absolutely fiscal reduction of everything, we must specify what”.
Curbelo considered that it is necessary to propose “fiscal policies or direct aid” and “public investment” as well as “coordinate EU funds” so that the canaries have “a real answer.”
