SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 19. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The PSOE of Tenerife has unanimously approved this Saturday the management of Pedro Martín as general secretary of the party on the Island. The first day of the XVII Insular Congress of the party hosted the presentation of the management report of the outgoing executive of the PSOE of Tenerife by the Secretary of Organization, Josefa Mesa, and the Secretary General of the PSOE on the Island, Pedro Martín.
Among the interventions of the opening day, the Secretary of Organization of the PSOE of Santa Cruz, Patricia Hernández, assured that in recent years the PSOE has taken on “very complex challenges” such as the pandemic and even the volcano on the island of La Palma . “We have been with the citizens when they most needed us, putting their interests ahead of all our decisions,” she clarified.
The organization secretary of the PSOE Canarias, Nira Fierro, recognized the work of the party and its unity in this congress. “When we have a united party, we arrive,” she commented, adding that the PSOE “is the only one that understands the balanced distribution of resources on the Island as a real commitment.”
During his speech, the MEP for the PSOE Juan Fernando López Aguilar explained that the most important thing is that the citizens find in the socialists “a reliable party”, especially in a context in which “the extreme right poses a threat as never before had it been known in a democratic stage”:
On behalf of the trade union organizations invited to the opening ceremony, the organizational secretary of UGT Canarias, Héctor Fajardo, highlighted the historical links between the two organizations. “We like this Socialist Party because it has recovered social dialogue between business and trade union organizations and it is to be appreciated that they have been its promoters.” In addition, he recalled “the courage” of the party “to legislate a new labor reform.”
For his part, the general secretary of the CCOO Canarias, Inocencio González, thanked the unity of the PSOE in Tenerife as a commitment that in his opinion should be translated “for the benefit of the citizenry”.
Tomorrow, Sunday, the closing of the XVII Insular Congress of the PSOE of Tenerife is scheduled to begin at 12:00 with the intervention of Héctor Gómez, deputy for Santa Cruz de Tenerife and spokesman for the PSOE in Congress; Ángel Víctor Torres, president of the Government of the Canary Islands and general secretary of the PSOE Canarias, and Pedro Martín, president of the Cabildo de Tenerife and general secretary of the PSOE Tenerife.
