the island group Yes We Can Canary Islands at Council of Tenerifethrough the spokesperson Maria Jose Beldacasts doubt on the feasibility of Teno Marine Reserve by the possible faecal contamination due to wastewater discharges that occur in the low islandspecifically through the Los Silos regional emissary. Belda unsuccessfully urged the Cabildo de Tenerife to “carry out or commission a specific study to analyze whether the illegal discharge of wastewater from the coast of Silense could currently be contaminating the waters of the area proposed for the Teno Marine Reserve of Fishing Interest”.
Belda criticizes the position maintained by PSOE and CC“which intended to undermine our proposal by preventing the corporation from studying whether said place may be being polluted, causing marine fauna to feed on waste from the spills, since later it will be used for consumption”.
The counselor of If we can denounces the “hypocrisy of the interest shown by the PSOE and the CC in vindicating the artisanal fishing sector, since while on the one hand they show themselves publicly as fishing partieson the other hand, put obstacles in the way of a measure aimed at guaranteeing that the final product with which the fishermen and fishermen of Tenerife be free from contamination.
Sí Podemos will urge the Government of the Canary Islands to carry out a study on the quality of these waters in the northwest of Tenerife
Belda also reproaches the island government “the attitude maintained both by the director responsible for the area of Agriculture, Livestock and fishingas by the councilor in charge of Natural Environmentavoiding assuming responsibility for the correct environmental status of these waters, which must offer all the guarantees that come with the figure of a Marine Reserve of Fishing Interest”.
The island spokesperson for Yes We Can Canary Islands reiterates that “the citizens of Tenerife must have all the guarantees that ensure that the marine reserves of fishing interest meet the necessary requirements so that the citizens can feed on the fishing from said areas.”
Belda points out that her party will urge the Canary Islands Government so that, through the Ministry of Fisheries, the Canary Islands Oceanographic Center the study that guarantees us that the waters of that area are suitable to be declared a Marine Reserve of Fishing Interest”.
Rejection of PSOE and CC
The refusal of the PSOE and the CC to allow the Cabildo de Tenerife to study the contamination of the Teno Marine Reserve of Fishing Interest causes the withdrawal of a proposal presented by Sí Podemos.
