SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 17. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Government Council of the Canary Islands has agreed this Thursday to extend, for an amount of 2,947,109.26 euros, the credit of the items for 2022 of the General Directorate of Security and Emergencies, in order to be able to face the expenses generated by the volcanic eruption in La Palma, whose invoices and equivalent documents have been received until January 31, 2022, the date on which the emergency went to level 1 and was managed by the Cabildo palmero.
The payments to be made are related, mainly, to transfers, lodging and maintenance, both for evacuated people and for their own personnel and the activation of resources from other public administrations.
In fact, of the total credit, 2,630,254.85 euros correspond to accommodation payments for evacuated people, while the rest is used for compensation for the service of its own emergency personnel, for the transport of external personnel from the services emergency or infrastructure costs.
The purpose of the credit extension is to pay said expenses to mitigate, urgently, the problems that could be caused by the provision of the service without receiving the corresponding consideration, as well as to avoid delays in payment to suppliers.
The management of the emergency by the Public Administration of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands has generated a series of expenses that have been assumed by the General Directorate of Security and Emergencies since the emergency situation was decreed on September 19, 2021, at level 2 (red traffic light), within the framework of the Special Plan for Civil Protection and Emergency Attention due to volcanic risk in the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands (PEVOLCA), whose direction was held by the Minister of Public Administrations, Justice and Security, Julio Pérez, until January 31, 2022.
The Deputy Minister of the Presidency, Antonio Olivera, has commented that it has also been approved to mobilize resources to finance the Punta del Negro pier that will allow reaching cultivation areas isolated by lava.
It has also indicated that in total some 365 million public resources have already been used to deal with the emergency and the reconstruction of the island and 4,800 files of those affected have been closed – there are only about 150 left plus some new ones derived from the special aid that is going to be given to workers in ERTE–.
Broken down by chapters, he commented that 164 million have been allocated to housing and accommodation, 80 million to aid for social emergencies and employment, 55 million for aid to economic and autonomous sectors and another 67 million in infrastructure.
