SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 17. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Platform of People Affected by the Cumbre Vieja Volcano 2021 has announced this Thursday that it has filed a complaint against the Los Llanos de Aridane City Council for “limiting those affected the right to freedom of expression” last Saturday, the day before the holding of the Conference of Presidents.
The complaint exposes how banners were removed from the platform by municipal personnel in the vicinity of the Archaeological Museum despite the fact that they had the permission of the owners where the material was placed.
The platform described the action of the municipal corporation as “extremely serious” since not only has the right to freedom of expression, included in article 20 of the Spanish Constitution, been violated, but it also constitutes an “attack” against the freedom of expression contemplated in article 11 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union (CDFUE).
From the platform they maintain, and this is stated in the complaint, that the objective of the banners “was to publicize important information on the situation of those affected to the representatives and presidents of the different autonomous communities who attended the Conference of Presidents last March 13.”
However, they continue, “they have prevented us from exercising the free right to express and make their opinions known.”
In the same way, those affected denounce that the withdrawal of the informative material also meant “a crime against property” and they estimated the approximate value of the banners at 500 euros.
However, they insist that they consider of “more value” the damage caused by removing the banners and preventing the dissemination of the information contained in them and that contained in the Q codes, for which they claim restitution for the damage caused.
