The degree of satisfaction of those affected, before the recent act presided over by the kings to render tribute to the exemplary nature of the palmero people, it is uneven. Some of the honorees in the act, among them Lucía Rosa González, who lost everything under the laundry, described as “disappointing” that great tribute held in the convent space of the San Francisco Museum, because “it was a delivery of medals to the exemplary character of the people of La Palma without the people”.
It’s not the only one. Those affected, grouped into two platforms and up to five neighborhood associations, have been surprised by events that some describe as “unheard of” and “a clear attitude of violation of our rights.” The statement is justified by the removal of protest banners from balconies in private homes on Calle Las Adelfas, 50 meters from the Benahorita Museum, which hosted the XXVI Conference of Presidents, a removal “carried out by workers from the City Council of Los Llanos de Aridane”, confirmed two of the owners.
They speak of a feeling of abandonment after the intense informative weekend. “They have barely seen us,” they said in statements to this newspaper. They remained seated for hours in the Plaza de Los Llanos, with banners in which their demands were exposed. “What we are experiencing does not seem real; we arouse interest while we lose and cry, while we evict the houses that were later washed away and now we don’t paint anything, we are annoying and uncomfortable; now our tears are no longer of interest, ”they indicated.
On the other side of the coin, those enormously satisfied with the visit of the kings, who met those who did not want to miss the opportunity to see their majesties pass by. Many appreciate the monarchs gesture to walk one of the most emblematic streets of the city, the first in Spain to elect its aldermen by suffrage in 1773.
