The port of Granadilla aspires to have an offshore wind farm of more than 630,000 square meters

The Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has opened the public information process to build a wind farm in the port of Granadilla, in the south of the island offshore of 50 megawatts for about 100 million euros, which will occupy nearly 630,000 square meters and will be the first of its kind in Spain.

The president of Puertos de Tenerife, Carlos González, has alluded to the “leading role” called to be played by the port of Granadilla in wind energy offshore and, linked to it, in ship repair, during a work meeting organized by the Canary Islands Maritime Cluster, with the collaboration of the Canary Islands Federation of Port Companies.

In addition to presenting the current situation of the Granadilla port works, González recalled that said facility aspires to become a point of reference for offshore wind energy with the aforementioned construction project of a 50-megawatt fixed-foundation wind farm, the Port Authority has indicated.

The port of Granadilla will count for the deployment of the wind farm offshore in the Canary Islands with a land surface of 24 hectares, without forgetting other initiatives such as the installation of floating photovoltaic in the southern mouth of the enclosure and the use of the new dock as an experiment to obtain energy from the waves, he adds.

Also participating in the work meeting were business representatives who will attend, under the auspices of the Government of the Canary Islands, the Wind Europe fair, which will be held from April 5 to 7 in Bilbao.

The Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has stressed that with regard to floating wind farms, the ports of Granadilla and La Luz and Las Palmas are called to play a decisive role and work is being done to achieve “a harmony” in the decisions to be made.

To this end, a list of Canarian companies with experience in the sector in their different specialties is drawn up, from logistics and transport to consultancy, including vertical work, ship repair, underwater work and maintenance, among others, explains the Port Authority.

Also, and in accordance with the sketches presented by Dácil Domínguez, managing director of Proexca, a joint brand is outlined that represents the entire sector and that will be the one that, together with the ministries of Economy and Ecological Transition of the Government of the Canary Islands, used at the Wind Europe fair.
