SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 16. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Technical Commission of Historical Memory, chaired by the Minister of Public Administrations, Justice and Security, Julio Pérez, has agreed this Wednesday to give himself a month to study the proposal for a catalog of Francoist symbols, streets, monuments and mentions in Santa Cruz de Tenerife Commissioned by the General Directorate of Heritage of the Government of the Canary Islands to the University of La Laguna, before informing the Ministry of Education, Universities, Culture and Sports about this 3,000-page document.

Together with the extension of the term, the Historical Memory Technical Commission has decided that, during this time, a special committee derived from the Technical Commission itself will analyze the content of the catalog and prepare a paper.

This committee will be made up of the representative of the Fecai in this body and vice president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Berta Pérez, the president of the Association for the Recovery of the Historical Memory of Tenerife, Mercedes Pérez, and the director of the Genetics Laboratory of the IML of Las Palmas, Juan José Pestano.

In addition, in the next session to be held by the commission to report on this catalog, each of its members may make the observations they deem appropriate and present the procedural objections they see fit.

This decision has been supported by all the participants of the technical commission, except for the representatives of the City Council of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, its mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, and its first deputy mayor, Guillermo Díaz, who abstained, by not sharing, Among other issues, that the catalog focuses only on the capital of Tenerife and is not extended, at least, to the entire island area, nor the ways in which the process has been carried out, the Executive details in a note.

At the meeting, as vice presidents, were the Minister of Education, Universities, Culture and Sports, Manuela de Armas, and Mercedes Pérez, both by telematic means, and the Vice Minister of Culture and Cultural Heritage, Juan Márquez, as vice president.

Also present were the Deputy Minister of Justice, Carla Vallejo, the General Director of Relations with the Justice Administration, Mónica Ceballos, the Head of the Justice and General Affairs Section of this General Directorate, Jana Millares, who acts as secretary, the President of the Association for the Recovery of the Historical Memory of La Palma, Félix González, and the Professor of Art History at the ULL, María Isabel Navarro.

By telematic means, the mayor of Arucas, Juan Jesús Facundo, representing Fecam, the president of the Canarian Association of Abducted Minors, Francisco González, the secretary of the Historical Memory Association of Arucas, Manuel Ortego, the representatives of the University from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Candelaria González and Javier Márquez, from the Historical Archive of the Province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Francisco Macías, and from Las Palmas, Samuel García, as well as Juan José Pestano.

The Minister of Public Administrations, Justice and Security has encouraged all the members of the Technical Commission of Historical Memory to advance in the study of the content of the catalog and to expose the objections and their replies in the next session.
