SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 15. (EUROPE PRESS) –
Five participants in the latest edition of Merkarte, a project promoted by the Youth area of the Cabildo de Tenerife that wants to make visible the creativity of young artists on the island, have opened a new artistic space in Santa Cruz to create and sell their works.
Estudio 53 arises from the hand of Jorge Méndez, María Badía, Federica Furbelli, Sara Méndez and Laura Santana. The objective of the artistic studio is to generate cultural movements, activities, events, open studios and artistic residencies.
The insular director of Education and Youth, Isabel Bello, went to Estudio 53 to support the five young artists, who showed her the work they are developing in said artistic center.
Bello stated that from the Education and Youth area “the aim is to motivate young creators to take the initiative to undertake projects by themselves, for which we celebrate and support the birth of Estudio 53,” he added.
He recalled that for a territory to be a cultural and artistic reference, the institutions “must contribute to forming and promoting a pool of creators.” “That is Merkarte, an engine or channel through which all the young talent of Tenerife flourishes,” he added.
For the island director, “the Merkarte project is becoming an opportunity for the professionalization of many young creators. After the pioneering experience with the Meliá Hacienda del Conde Hotel, in which these artists decorated the hotel rooms with their creations, awakening a lot of interest from other public and private entities.The young talent of Tenerife has a lot to contribute to the start-up of the island, and from the Cabildo we will make sure that all sectors of Tenerife society are aware of it and participate in this impulse.”
