SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 14. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Cabildo de Tenerife, through the Insular Institute of Social and Socio-Sanitary Care (IASS), inaugurated this Monday in La Orotava the Villa del Carmen residence for the elderly, which has a capacity for 15 places and is managed by the Divine Providence Brotherhood.
This is the first center launched by the island corporation within the new model of personalized and specific care that it wants to implement on the island to improve the quality of care provided to users.
The island’s president, Pedro Martín, highlighted the importance of changing the socio-health care model, by setting up small centers that care for the elderly and give them the ability to continue to be an active part of society. .
“It is about valuing how much the elderly have to contribute, facilitating their participation and integration in society, through integrated resources in the community, which offer accommodation to a limited number of people and in a closer and more family,” the president added.
For her part, the island councilor for Social Action, Marián Franquet, wanted to point out the autonomy and decision-making capacity given to the elderly in these new centers, contributing to their better quality of life.
“The purpose is to treat dependent people as if they were people close to us,” said the counselor, who highlighted the professionalism and affection with which the Divine Providence Brotherhood carries out its work.
“You, the workers and the users of this center are opening a new way of understanding social resources, so that the quality of life of the people of Tenerife is better”, added Franquet.
The Councilor for Social Welfare of the City Council of La Orotava, Belén González, congratulated the Cabildo for the initiative and “for helping to reduce the macrocentres, betting on inclusive housing” and advocated that “the city councils and the rest of the administrations support this kinds of models.
CHANGE OF SOCIAL AND HEALTH MODEL
Brother Julián, from the Divina Providencia Fraternity, spoke in the same vein, thanking the island corporation for changing the socio-health model and the trust placed in the brotherhood to manage this first center.
The Villa del Carmen residence, located on Avenida Doctor Emilio Luque Moreno, provides the elderly with personal autonomy so that, in addition to accommodation, maintenance and laundry, they are provided with support services in personal and social care, accompaniment and promotion for the integration and full life of older people in the community.
Its launch is part of the new services that the Social Action area, through the IASS, is launching to offer a more specialized care service adapted to needs.
