SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 10. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Pedro Martín, announced this Thursday that next week the industrial wastewater treatment plant in the Güímar industrial estate will be put into operation, in a testing period, with which “another milestone of the plan will have been covered of stages so that service can be provided to the industrial estate and the problem and the fear that this urbanization will be closed will have ended”.

Pedro Martín, who was accompanied by the island councilor for Sustainable Development, Javier Rodríguez, announced that the three affected municipalities, Candelaria, Güímar and Arafo, whose mayors, Gustavo Pérez, Juan Ramón Martín and mayor Mari Brito, also participated in the visit to the plant, “they are not going to have to pay any money for the transfer of discharges, because the Cabildo is going to take care of that cost”, since a percentage of the wastewater will have to be transferred to the Treatment Plant of Industrial Residual Waters of the Polígono de La Campana until the works in the Polígono de Güímar are finished.

The president of the Cabildo, the two mayors and the mayor thanked the collaboration of the City Council of El Rosario in implementing the solution adopted.

In this regard, the island president pointed out that this transfer to El Rosario has been underway since March 1 and that this operation “has also been done in the past in other treatment plants when there have been problems.”

Along these lines, he affirmed that it has been possible to enable the diversion in vats because the Cabildo has invested one and a half million euros in the La Campana treatment plant.

“The Cabildo is there to collaborate with the municipalities and when there are serious problems we are not arguing about whether this is from the City Council or if it is from the Cabild, they are resolved, period. In this case, promoting initiatives like this that have been waiting for so long and for so many years for its realization and that should have been built at the time the urbanization was carried out, not now, but we have come to solve problems that were left over from the past”, he pointed out.

The mayor of Arafo, Juan Ramón Martín, explained that “searching for solutions to the problems” has been tried and achieved, and recalled that “the Valle de Güímar Industrial Estate was once in the news because of the disunity and now it is news because of the union of the municipalities”.

In addition, he assured that the companies “have not suffered any damage” because all the institutions had as fundamental objectives that the normal operation of the companies and the environment be maintained. “I think these goals have been met,” she noted.

“WE HAVE DONE THE HOMEWORK”

The mayor of Candelaria, Mari Brito, recalled that the municipalities have worked together with the Cabildo, through the Insular Water Council, with the vice-ministry and with the El Rosario council, showing their maximum involvement and commitment, in order to reach the agreements that have allowed this intermediate situation until the milestone of the plan of stages scheduled for February 28 is met and delayed in the execution of the work of the EDARI, and indicated that they trust that the milestones will be fulfilled from now and that they do not have to reach these extreme situations that they have gone through in recent weeks due to the delay in the works.

“There has been a very important investment by the Cabildo, which has suffered a delay of many years. The partial plan is from the year 72 and it is from the previous mandate and in this one when the works that should have been executed from back then. We have done the homework, the Cabildo at this time has done the homework, and we have to continue betting on environmental sustainability and the economic development of our land,” he commented.

To conclude, Gustavo Pérez, mayor of Güímar, pointed out that the completion of the EDARI is delayed by a few days, “which is manageable taking into account the nature of the work and this circumstance has meant that a series of decisions have to be made, including them the hiring of the vats that will transfer these waters to El Rosario for the duration of the work”.

He also stressed that “the president of the Cabildo has informed that he assumes this expense, which is also a relief for the residents of the three municipalities.”
