SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 9. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Plenary of the Parliament of the Canary Islands has unanimously approved this Wednesday a PNL of Sí Podemos in which the central government is urged to articulate the necessary modifications so that the mortgage debt of the houses devastated by the eruption is canceled.
The deputy Francisco Déniz has commented that the PNL comes from an IUC motion in the City Council of Los Llanos de Aridane to eliminate the mortgage debts of the people whose property was devastated by the Cumbre Vieja volcano in the municipalities of Tazacorte, Los Plains of Aridane and El Paso.
He has commented that the population must “reduce uncertainty” because the future is not clear and maintains that this measure will “relieve” families because “it is logical” that if the home disappears, the debt will be eliminated.
Déniz believes that there is no room for “picaresque” because of the 1,676 homes affected by the volcano, more than 1,300 are first occupancy, and he does not see “fair or reasonable” that the 60,000 euros that the central government has contributed for compensation ends up being allocated to mortgage payments.
Vidina Espino, spokesperson for the Mixed Group, has commented that Podemos is part of the Government so he believes that they have “a hard face” given that this measure should have been approved months ago in a Council of Ministers.
“With this PNL they are not going to deceive the palmeros, stop making a fool of themselves and assume their responsibilities”, he pointed out.
Jesús Ramos (ASG) has pointed out that all the measures are welcome, although this raises legal doubts, although he believes that the cancellation of debts is “fair and necessary” given the serious economic problems on the island.
However, he has warned that “it is not easy” and that palmeros cannot be “fooled”.
Luis Campos, spokesman for NC, has commented that this PNL “does not clear uncertainties” because the measure has no legal status and has regretted that there has not been “a gesture” from the bank itself to eliminate the debt when the asset no longer exists.
He has said that he has “doubts” from a legal point of view but hopes that it can be carried out because the situation is exceptional.
LEGAL DOUBTS
Lorena Hernández (PP) has also shown her “doubts” with the NLP because a “message of optimism” can be sent to citizens when the final decision does not depend on the regional Chamber and it is not known “who is going to pay” the amounts .
Sergio Hernández (CC-PNC) has commented that almost all the affected houses have a mortgage and on land ceded by the parents, many of them coming from money from emigration to Venezuela.
He has thanked the Sí Podemos initiative but does not understand that this proposal has been led by the central government because the eruption is the biggest “catastrophe” in recent years. “The ball is in the government’s court, I hope it doesn’t fail”, he stressed.
Jorge González (PSOE) has commented that there are moratoriums of up to one year but he wonders “what will happen” when it ends, so he claims “exceptional responses” given that the casuistry is very different on the island.
However, he has warned that the process is going to be “complex and difficult” and that “false expectations” are not created among those affected.
