SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 9. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Cabildo de Tenerife will allocate this year a total of 29.8 million euros to execute the different action policies that are developed through the Insular Directorate of Culture, which is included within the Area of Roads, Mobility and Innovation.
The counselor, Enrique Arriaga, highlighted at a press conference that this is “the largest investment made by the Cabildo de Tenerife in the last six years” and represents an increase of 7.93 percent compared to the last year.
Arriaga pointed out that these 29.8 million are distributed in “ambitious but real accounts”, which are even higher than the pre-pandemic stage and are distributed between the lines of work of the Administrative Service of Culture and the contributions made by the Cabildo for development of its artistic units: Auditorio de Tenerife, Insular Board of Music and TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes.
For the Minister of Culture, in these times of pandemic, “society consumed even more culture and for this reason not only have the quantities not been cut, but we intend to increase aid, which is adjusted according to the sector”.
Enrique Arriaga also reviewed the artistic units of the Cabildo.
The Tenerife Auditorium has a contribution from the corporation of just over seven million and pointed out that this year the improvement of the acoustics of the Chamber Halls and new phases in the Symphony Hall are planned.
Regarding TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes, the counselor highlighted that it has 4.06 million euros and an increase of 23 percent over last year.
Among the actions planned in the contemporary art center, the items planned for the acquisition of works of art and the digitization of the collections of the documentary center stand out.
The contribution of the Cabildo to the Insular Music Board, the entity in charge of managing the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, amounts to 6 million euros, an amount that includes expenses derived from personnel, the artistic season, educational projects and other activities of the orchestra.
4.1 MILLION IN AID
The insular director of Culture, Alejandro Krawietz, considered that “the budget is the great tool to achieve the strengthening and consolidation of the sector” and recalled that the strategic lines presented last year included the importance of encouraging aid through calls of free attendance.
In this chapter, he highlighted that this year’s budget includes a new one aimed at the foreign promotion of culture in favor of companies and associations.
The nine open calls offered by the Cabildo de Tenerife have a budget of 4.16 million euros.
Krawietz also pointed out that “the Cultural Infrastructure Plan aims to prepare the island to face very important challenges in the medium and long term that will allow for suitable spaces to offer quality programming and persevere in the necessary balance between the offer of the metropolitan area and the rest of the island”.
Likewise, this year the execution of two new works is planned – located in Fasnia (Old Cinema) and Santiago del Teide (Grama Cultural Center) – and the continuation of another seven performances, which will take place in the municipalities of Adeje, Buenavista , La Guancha, La Matanza, La Victoria, Los Realejos and Santa Úrsula, with a global investment of 3.78 million euros, of which 3.23 million are contributed by the Cabildo and the rest by the municipalities.
