Yesterday afternoon, March 8, the prizes were awarded to the winners of the 2nd edition of the “Doña Concepción García Suárez 2021” Awards, whose delivery ceremony took place in La Casona del Patio coinciding with the celebration of the International Women’s Day.

Thus, María José García, in the presence of all those present, proceeded to present the award to the hip-hop singer, songwriter and rapper of “Free Style” Sarah Sokas, for his candidacy as “Best Socio-cultural or Sports Initiative”thus acknowledging her perseverance and effort to stand out in a social sphere that is attractive to young people, such as rap, which since its inception has been traditionally masculinized, always advocating for raising awareness through her songs of feminist issues and gender equality. gender.

Honorary Distinctions they were for the sommeliers and room managers of the Restaurant El Rincón de Juan Carlos, Maria Jose Plasencia and Raquel Navarrothus acknowledging the commitment of both, daily, in a field traditionally occupied by men, where they have known how to stand out for their professionalism and good work as room managers and sommeliers of one of the restaurants with a Michelin Star in the Canary Islands.
Likewise, it is worth mentioning that, as in the previous edition, the present awarded to each of the awardees consisted of a unique handcrafted piece made by the users of the San Juan Association, highlighting that for it there was the elaboration of a mulberry wood base as well as the use of wool from sheep that they have on their own farm and whose painting represents the “Tara”, a symbol of Canarian women.
Finally, through the development of the “Doña Concepción García Suárez” Awards, the City Council seeks to create an annual recognition that serves to promote gender equality, as well as public recognition of those people and entities from Santiago del Teide that develop activities that promote the elimination of discriminatory conditions and attitudes based on sex in order to achieve the non-sexist construction of knowledge.
