The spokesman for the Unified Assembly of the People-Yes You Can (AUP-SSP), Juan Siverio, who between June 2019 and November 2020 was first deputy mayor and mayor of the Environment, Water and Municipal Services, demands that his former partners in the government of San Juan de la Rambla (PSOE-AIS-CC) that “they repair the Los Toscales treatment plant, whose state of deterioration is the cause of the discharge of untreated water into the Las Monjas ravine for years”.
Siverio remembers that, during the period in which he himself assumed the management of the Water area in the municipal government, he began the procedures to return the treatment plant to its correct operation: «The Ramblero City Council has a report from the company Islas del Valle that warns of the bad situation of the treatment plant since 2014, when the current mayor, Ezequiel Domínguez (PSOE), carried out his duties as a Water Councilor. During our brief period in government we contacted sanitation companies to carry out a study to try to verify if the wells were collapsed.
“Upon leaving the government, we informed the current Water Councilor, Juan Ramos (AIS-CC), and four months ago we urged him to resolve this situation. We believe that this is enough time for the government to have an explanation of how this process is going,” warns the AUP-SSP spokesman. For Siverio, “it is a delicate situation, not only for the environment and health, but also for the corporation itself, due to its responsibility. As we see from what is happening in other municipalities on the island with the discharge of untreated water ».
In the opinion of AUP-SSP, the most appropriate solution for the municipality of San Juan de la Rambla would be “the establishment of a natural purification system”, for which during its government stage “a feasibility report was prepared for this system for the midlands, which included the transformation of the Los Toscales treatment plant into a natural or extensive treatment plant».
